I dive an Atomic Z1, my wife dives the Oceanic Delta 3. Both are fine breathers. You wouldn't be dissapointed with either. I've dove ScubaPro and Apex, too ... both are top shelf.

But do you know the #1 reason I bought the Atomic? The wide exhaust-T! (accessory) I hate bubbles in by face! As far as I know, Atomic is the only "modern" reg that offers the wide exhaust. (By modern I mean smaller / low-profile.)

Scubapro also offers a wide exhaust (Scubapro Bubble Deflector) for their S600, R390 and R290 second stages. Tigullio T52 Airtrak and Airtrak Plus second stages also have the wide exhaust.

I have Apex TX50 and TX40 regs, the exhaust tees are as wide as any I've seen, but that's not the case with their ATX line. As my trim improves, that turns out to be less of an issue. :)

Thank you for all the replies. Those of you who have actually tried more than one of the regs I asked about, I especially appreciate the feedback.

I have ultimately decided on the Atomic. The final deciding factors were the availability of service, the quality of construction, and the lifetime warranty that the other manufacturers didn't offer.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Just a little "food for thought"...be sure you understand the terms of the different warranties if you are making this a factor in your decision. Many companies have "lifetime warranties" that cover annual service *parts* IF you bring the regulator in EVERY year for annual service (some won't hold you to "every year" despite having this in writing). Atomic makes an outstanding reg, and they are not as strict in requiring ANNUAL service to maintain their warranty...however, you do have to pay for the parts kit when you have your reg serviced. Not necessarily a big factor (unless you have many regs...then it adds up)...again, just make sure you aware of the differences in warranties if you are factoring them into your decision.

ATX 100 is a great reg. At depth and warm or cold water I love mine and I am buying 2 more for my doubles setup.

I think the service interval for atomic regs is every two years. That alone could save hundreds over the life of the reg.

I've never dove an atomic, but I have never once heard anything other than lavish praise for them. Of course, if I spent that kind of money on a reg, I'd expect it to be pretty great. Honestly, I don't know how much better than my old MK15/G250 (total cost less than $300 including initial service) could be possible in terms of breathability.

It looks like groo found the regs he was looking for -- two and a half years ago. :eyebrow:
