Mitten, I am beginning to see the type of person Ted really is.

First he promises me the master suite, then offers it up to Cheryl. Then he starts the negotiating and bidding war.

Since Cheryl has seniority and Queen (Mickie) is driving very far, maybe I should just take you up on your offer and share your accomodations. I'll have my pillow and sleeping bag. Make room in the suv for me okay? :cool2:

You don't mind sleeping in the front bucket seat, however, do you? <grin>

Read my earlier posts Natalie...I PM'd him my credit card information months ago to reserve the high class accomodations. Ted does have a price, and he can be bought!:)

Having a redundant gas supply (at least a separate 1st stage) by way of pony or a main tank with an H-valve is very reasonable in 40 degree water temps where a fast trip to the surface may not be a good idea and freeze-ups/free flows are a distinct possibility.

Mike's demeanor may not be diver friendly at all times (I barely know the guy), but when you get all types coming though the gate; he has to maintain the right to err on the save side. To be honest, bravado kills more divers than equipment failures.

I have never had to use my pony or shut a tank on my doubles in 600+ dives (maybe 250ish tough dives) in an emergency, but that does not mean that the day will never come. I have had acquaintances (luckily no close friends) die while diving and unfortunately more than a few buddy's have had DCS hits - not one had a back-up air supply at the time. I can't say if that would have saved them, but just the stress regarding an equipment failure of air supply can always be factor.

So slowly ease down past the tubes, get some mid level wreck dives in the Great Lakes (a lot more fun that diving the deep side of Gilboa anyway) under your weight belt and then take if from there. There is no scuba police, you pays your money and takes your chances.

Maybe if he didnt make it so hard to follow the rules by making the rules ridiculous he wouldnt have to problem of divers trying to skirt him...

He treats his "deep side" like the freakin' Doria... denying a deep plan to that guy a few posts ago with > 200 dives? what? Pony bottle Mandatory? what? ... and of course the obvious catch 22 position of "well you havent dove deep recently" ... well Sheeit Sherlock if you Let Me I'd GET the experience!!... uhg... whatever...

I'll enquire about a "plan" but he Sure As Hell Wont be giving me one... me with Only my OW Basic and 51 dives (Obviously unsafe! even when surrounded by GLWC members!)

I think he walks a Very fine line between enforcing what feels are Safety measures VS driving divers away...

Pay my money an take my chances? If it Only worked that way...

no, I think that a Quarry... no current, waves, entanglement, overhead, etc. is THE safest way one CAN get deeper experience...

a free-flow, tho' rare could happen, sure... even with my enviromentally sealed Cold Water Reg... but a free-flow isnt a deal-breaker... and you do have at least one buddy with ya'... yeah you can go through alot of air quick in a ff situation... luckily I have a bigger than usual tank.. (LP121)

I dont see bravado here... I'm seeing Reasonable.

Ok Im going to end this now. The thread has been hijacked for a discussion over diving deep at Gilboa. We all, or at least most of us know Mikes Rules. There his rules we have to live by them. Like them or not. We will save the discussion of the rules for around the campfire. Lets return to the MNG and who is or how many is going to be keeping my feet warm.

Ooooh, good to know! ;)

By the way Cheryl, you and I have similar dive styles...I swore when I bought my 3/2 wetsuit that I'd NEVER dive in cold water again. Then I spend one weekend with these guys and I'm planning on diving in a freezing cold quarry!! How do you stay strong??

It isn't the thrill of the dive, it's the feelings you get when Mitten Diver "stuffs" you into one of his spare drysuits! (But, keep it a secret, so we won't have to wait in a long line for his assistance! :ssst:)
