The problem is they are crazy expensive new and hard to find used. Since many people have trouble getting used to them, it's hard to give them a general recommendation.
But for someone who prefers flutter kick (or dolphin kick) and wants a super comfortable and easy to don and doff fin, they are great. You can even walk in them reasonably well for short distances such as from your seat to the dive platform or jump door.

My only complaint is they are kind of awkward for treading water.
These have a very unusual rating profile on Amazon. I pay attention to such things for basically everything that I buy from them, and it's extremely unusual to have 86% of ratings at five stars. It's also really odd for the rest of the reviews to be one star- 14%. On the face of that, it seems to indicate that you either detest these booties or you really love them. So let me ask- why do you think someone would hate them?
These are heavy fins and in general, OK, but with new technology, I'd get the same but plastic like OMS or several other simular. Jet are good basic fins.Wife and I are getting our open water in Mexico and these look cool and reasonable value. Obviously not sure about the quality of materials at this price point and the fact that they are not a known scuba brand. Best to stay away? I like that they have springs, but of course if they get rusty as heck after the first dive I won't be happy.

I've heard to wait to buy gear but I'm just window-shopping right now and trying to get some opinions to learn how experienced divers judge equipment. I'm sure that the type of diving that I do will be a big part of the equation here. My wild guess is that we will dive on vacation in warm water destinations, but places like Gilboa Quarry in Ohio look really really interesting to me to!!!!

Yep ! There are 4-5 different plastic Jets available and they are all about the same. Good, Quality, work in most environments and overall good fins. I personally use Force too, but that wasn't the question.
