Doug.
Did I miss answer about compatibility wit Atom1 or Oceanic has no plans to further support this computer with software updates?

Doug,

After downloading the new version I'm still not able to make changes to data such as the PDC Dive# - a small thing, perhaps, but it's annoying since this number only goes up to the number of dives I do in a day, and I can find no other way to record the total number of dives I have. Any suggestions?

thanks
Joe

Is this a bug ?

I guess you are mistaking two different numbering :

[life time dive number] = what is the rank of this dive amongst all those I dived with this computer ?
[pdc dive number] = what is the rank of this dive out of the consecutive dives before zeroing my nitrogen ?

Those two items are displayed on your dive sheet and the two of them are useful.

You could have a look at:

Thanks--I see that now. What I was hoping to find was a way to actually record the number of dives I've done in my life, including those done before I got my current computer. Just as I do in my written log. Evidently that's not possible.

hi doug, thanks for your reading & answering.

Doug Krause:
No.
The CD-ROM that ships with our dive computers contains operating manauls in multiple languages, including French. For printed manuals, it is ultimately up to our international partners to provide in their respective territories.

That's the way anybody would have liked it. Unfortunately, I must say if any other language is provided it's so well burried in this CD nobody could find it.
Must have been an old forgotten release ? (2004 products list included...).

Ultimatly I've been provided with a pdf file by mail.
Plain translation of the text.
Uneasy to print (written as a the original booklet but on a full size paper sheet) and without any sketch or picture of the pdc screen refered to by the manual So one need to have BOTH : reading the french printed manual & looking at the picture on the english booklet. Not funny.

Further more the plastic quick card is not provided, so you have to take the two printed manuals on boad or by the sea side. Really not funny.

The translation to french is a pretty good job, thanks to Mr Rousselet who is a good diver & translator, very well aware of both technical stuff & french divers habits.

Doug Krause:
..I am confident at this point that while we will always continue to modify the program, we have a very stabile platform to work from. We are beginning now to work with our international partners to provide translation and will implement them as soon as complete. In the next couple of weeks we will begin collecting the foreign language manuals and software programs for posting on the web site.
...
I can understand that its time consuming and that you must get a stable software before undertaking expensive work on writing manuals and one as to wait.

But I wonder if talking about a stable product isn't too optimistic, especially as long as you don't handle metrics.

If of any interest I can pm you my log file, but you don't really need it.

You only need to get any log, fill in an appropriate size of tank (ie mine is a 15 liter steel one) and see what happens reading data & exporting.

When exporting I get only dive headers in my text file.

Regarding calculation, for a dive which max depth is 8,8 meters, I get such weird things as average depth 15.74, sac = 0,001l/m (0.06 ci/minute) , temp being minus 24°c (minus 11°f). My last release is Oceanlog 2.11 built 08.31.06

Hope this can help.

Doug, I downloaded the full version and it seems to work pretty well. I just used it to upload my most recent dives and to compute the SAC rates. Here's some problems I noticed:

1. Average depth is correct in feet, but when I change to metric it does not change unlike the other statistics.

2. The metric tank sizes are still a little foreign to me. For example, an 80 cu.ft. tank gets converted to a 2265 L tank (metric), even though most people would call it an 11 L tank (I think based on how many L of water it holds). Also, the program seems to require a working pressure for tanks even in metric format even though this is not necessary and the calculations I've seen for metric SAC rates have not used it.

3. I have two versa pros: an old one with a yellow side button and a newer one with a grey side button. The older one had some problems uploading dives, the newer unit did not. In particular, I got lots of error messages during the upload with the former and ended up with many 0 minutes dives. Maybe this was just caused by a bad connection, but I'm just bringing it up in case others have had similar experiences.

4. Last, the uploading window says to press the magnifyng glass button to test for connection, but when I do nothing happens. Regardlress the connection is there and the dives got downloaded fine on my newer dive computer (and not so fine on the older unit). I use windows XP in case that matters.
