NetDoc,

I'll be looking for the VT3 update. Mine should be in this upcoming week. I can't wait!!

Let us know for sure how the software update worked with the VT3, please.

OOOOppppppssssssssss . . . .

Much MUCH better. The SAC calculation works great for non AI dives.

A couple of things on the Dive Data - History page. The total dive time for the last 6 months is greater than the total dive time for the last 12 months. I went back an updated all the dives that had zero for dive time, and this made things better, but the numbers still don't add up.

I have a number of manual entry dives, so the min/max temperature is 0F. This causes 0F to be displayed as the min temp on the Dive Data - History page. It should be easy enough to put a test for min/max both = zero, ignore this for the dive history. It would be nice to ignore zero values for visibility history as well.

Lowest & Highest SAC don't update until you quit out and come back in.

Keep up the good work. This is a definite step in the right direction.

I have to agree that it's a HUGE improvement. The only problem that I found thus far is that a couple of my husband's dives show pretty deep average depths. He has one dive that the max. depth was 85 feet, but the average shows as 122 feet. Another dive has a max. depth of 63 feet but the average shows 225 feet. His SAC rates for those dives are pretty incredible though!! ;)

Unlike some of the others who have d/l'd the beta-ware, I lost my d/l'd dives when I insttalled the update. They just disappeared. So I have some bugs to point out.

1. Lost dives from previous d/l when beta-ware was installed

In Manual Dive Input Mode under Dive Log

2. In the Time Out section, it likes to make the colon symbol disappear when you enter a time, usually when I tab to it or use the backspace key when the entire time is highlighted.

3. Under location and dive site, if I tab to these then use a scroll to select my location and/or dive site, the selection will not be saved when I add the next dive. It seems to select the last item in the drop down when you use the scroll w/o the drop down.

4. When I use the arrows at the top of the Dive Input mode, it asks if I would like to save the current info. I click yes, but the info I edit is not saved....goes back to zero's. This happens with all of the time indicators, the psi start, psi end, max depth, and temp.

5. When the issue in #4 occurs, it wipes out the dive time, time in, time out, elapsed time, depth, surface interval time, working pressure, and temp from all previous manually entered dives.

Under the Dive Computer section

6. When in the Dive Computer section, the time tab always reverts to 24 hour and will not stay on 12 hour.

7. Under the utilities tab, no adjustments are saved. They always return to the origianlly d/l'd specs, each time the program is started.

8. Under the alarm tab, the same applies as 7. Reverts to original config.

Gear Bag

9. After inputting all of my gear info, then closing the program, once it is started again, the weight belt info returns to 100 lbs and other weight returns to 150 lbs after it has been set to 0.

Under History

10. Since this relies on accurate info from the dive log, once issues #1-9 have occurred, this information is no longer available or accurate.

Resultant of issues 1-9, I have been unable to test out the Location, Buddies, or Queries tabs of a specific dive.

It might be a good feature to be able include cert numbers in the personal information section as well as the Buddies section.

A quick comment as well as question on the new beta OceanLog software.

First the comment:

When creating a new Gear Bag name, it crashes upon inputting an apostrophe (eg: Michael's kit) - it's none too happy with the possessive apostrophe. If there is simply no plan to allow those types of special chars in the input, I'd suggest at least adding error handling of some sort where it catches the exception and outputs an error msg as opposed to crashing the program and closing.

And the question:

I've looked through the online manual and did a search, but couldn't find if it was possible to combine multiple dives into the same dive. Say you and your buddy went down for 10 mins to 25 feet, there was an issue, you came back up to the surface for 5 mins. You descended again the remainder of the time to whatever. The VT3 shows this as 2 separate dives, but is there a way to combine them into the same dive in the software? Thanks in advance!

Michael,

From what I was able to discern from the VT3 manual, the VT3 enters surface mode once you come up to 5ft and will return to the same dive IF you return below 5 ft before the 5 minute mark. Once at the 5 minute mark it ends the log on that dive and counts the 5 minutes as a surface interval.

To graph this, I stayed in the shallows at Table Rock Lake (3ft-8ft) and tested the issue. At 5 ft and up to 3 ft, it definately entered surface mode and continued there until my depth returned to 5 ft then it continued the on the log of the same dive, but the graph clearly showed the up-down-up-down issue that would be created by entering the 5 minute time frame to a "locked in" surface interval, which will separate dives.

diverdown,

yeah, got that part. just curious once you've extended that 4-5 min mark, if it's possible to combine two "separate" dives into one using the oceanlog software.
