I resent this.
My apologies to any trolls who do put time and effort into their posts! My comment was completely out of line.

But they come bearing gifts :)

LOL

I've been known to be seriously harsh on acts of government stupidity such as the FQAS in Quebec.

I must say the province for whatever reason has an even more idiotic approach than most of the others in the country, so the FQAS and the scuba scene in general doesn't suprise me much.

Here's a picture from last week where the FQAS had a dog and pony show going around, I guess to promote the good they're doing ;)

We just got back diving a Class "C" wreck (FQAS cards in hand) and these guys called us over to their booth in the parking lot.

Real nices guy really, they even spoke the real official language of the world....lol.

The tank behind us in the picture was a portable aquarium of sorts, sorry we declined to dive it. I don't think anyone else but us where there all day, but I could be wrong.

We figured we needed some payback for two years of wasted funds via the FQAS cards, so we proceeded to eat just about every hotdog they had for the public. lol.

I recall as I was stuffing my face with doggie number four, that I finally got my monies worth from them....we chuckled....

As further proof of how it's not working, I think it was two days later there was a single tank diver, with an unknown (to us) diving repetoire diving this same Class "C" wreck. I don't even know if he had an FQAS cert, but it's not clear to me how he could actually get one from what we know of the process and due diligence being done.

Regardless of this guys certifications, common sense should have dictated this guy not be allowed on the boat, choosing to dive this wreck in the gear he had. As proof of that our dive op told him "no" when he inquired about getting on our boat.

Where there's a will, there's a op willing to do it for funds I guess, because we watched him splash in on another boat.

The process, to me seems rather slack, and I'm sure I could have forged whatever dive log and card I would have required, and got it through quite easily.

I could be mistaken however, because we have been diving with this Op for longer than the FQAS has been around, and he knows us, so it's very possible he is just more easily accomodating because he aleady has a known entity with us, vs. someone he doesn't know such as this single tank diver.

Whats more, our Op has a brain and has been making the proper decisions regularly, all without the help of the FQAS.

Regards

They spoke chinese??? :D:mooner: ;)

Doh.

The real world.

wardric:
what? he wasn't wearing black? ;)

uhm...yes. black gear...what else would I be referring too?

I've not read all the posts in this thread, but so far I think everyone has missed the value of 80 lbs of lift.

That much lift is so that when you want to surface, you can max inflate your BC/BPW at depth and you will totally clear the water upon surfacing. If your trajectory is correct, you will land feet first on the boat deck or shoot directly into the waiting med-evac helicopter.

80 lbs lift in a BC/BPW? Yeah, maybe if you want to use yourself as a lift bag for raising a canon!

That 'captain' sounds like a real goober.

- It's probably the only place in the world where divers are soooo superiors that we need 2 certification to dive (OW cert AND a government issued certification)

unfortunate but not true... we also have this type of BS...

Too late for that.
Have you ever been stalked by a resentful troll?
