That much lift is so that when you want to surface, you can max inflate your BC/BPW at depth and you will totally clear the water upon surfacing. If your trajectory is correct, you will land feet first on the boat deck or shoot directly into the waiting med-evac helicopter.

roflmao!!!

this certification thing it a worry though - the local (NSW/australia) state govt is looking at introducing a similar thing as a funds grab, kind of like a fishing license (rather than a safety certification/driving license).

funny though - it will probably cost them much more to administer & enforce than they'll get in revenue :P

I have been running into those types for decades. I have been diving back inflate since before they were called wings and yes I have been banned numerous times. Down in Florida mostly and even today down there you will find the BP/wing is given the eye on many dive boats.

I also like the "American" insulting and the tech insulting and his extensive nine years of experience. This is very typical stuff and why you have to put up with it all to just go dive is beyond me. It really began around 1980 as PadI gained control over the dive industry.

I have seen scuba police, they are the PadI swarm that strip the reef bare, grab the rocks, lay on the coral and usually have enough lead on to sink a ship with their huge balloon BCs that they prefer and those stupid snorkels entangled in their hoses, hair and whatever else they come across.

Now you see why some people dive solo whenever possible and from their own boats if possible. Course, when you travel--get ready--you non conformist--prepare for the lecture from the 20yo bimbo PadI DM about how dangerous you are.

Good luck, hang in there, it don't get better. N

PADI bashing at its finest! Nice!

 Excellent! Good stuff! Let's ditch our snorkels and wear our masks on foreheads!

"PADI bashing at its finest! Nice!"

Thank you, it has taken me years to perfect this both subtle and yet still irratating style to this level of perfection. Still, somehow, I feel there is room for improvment. I must try to reach the next level--I must---I must reach further than ever--yes---the top of the mountain, I can see it.

"Excellent! Good stuff! Let's ditch our snorkels and wear our masks on foreheads! "

Thanks again, lol, please don't let me stop you!!!! :)

Seriously, here is a tip for you. I know this because I am known to dive various unusual configurations and equipment. When the captain or the DM wants to use your gear for an impromptu show and tell (which is generally a soap box for them to make fun of you) you can tell them --NO---unless they want to rent the gear for the price of the charter! OR, say sure, but I give the show and tell and not you. This generally shuts them up and alerts them to fact that your not gonna be their patsy for the day.

Exactly what I thought when I read the OP.

As a Divemaster, if I see a rig that I don't like I tell the diver right away. I offer advice on how to make his rig dive boat compliant. If he doesn't comply, he doesn't dive.

Also, certain dive profiles demand certain rig configurations and equipment. Period.

Now, the one thing that I never do is comment on his rig, none of my business; and there are issues, both ethical and legal, that can result from direct DM to divers ad-hoc comments.

Nemrod...you have your own cult following!

Bimbo's, huh?

I have to say, not much PADI influence in the places I like the best. PADI is not really taken seriously in very many places I have seen. The word's out.

My hope is that divers...PADI and otherwise will become more discerning about being told what to do by people they hire for a service.

Foreign dive destinations, for the most part, IMV usually do not have this problem and consider themselves at your service, not the other way around. If an operator starts this whole petty power trip...just go find another. Honestly, you can tell in about 30 seconds, less than the time it takes to untie the boat. It is largely an American affliction, from what I see.
