    can't dive for a while...

Congrats on the baby! I hope you have an easy pregnancy. Having a baby sure changes things. One of my friends, a divemaster, dove before she realized that she was pregnant and it didn't appear to affect anything at all. Her "baby" is now in Jr. High and has never shown any ill-effects. But...

Why keep a physical dive log?

My old log books, I LOVE to read them once in a while. It is fun to see what I said about stuff I saw 20 years ago! lol - some funny observations to be sure. Also, I usually write a lot more than just facts. I used to try to draw the odd things I saw (now I know the weren't "odd"), and I used...

    Turtle Attack!?

Wow - I just had to say "wow!" I hope they change the procedures in the future to always have two in the water at a time. If he had had someone with snorkle gear on to watch him, this probably would have just been another great story to share over pizza and beer. What an unnecessary...

This little black box needs to melt down.

Wow, what a story. Good for you. It is so important to have recovered him for his family and loved ones. Someone I care about drowned a few years back in a canal - not diving, just being stupid. So, I know firsthand how very important it is to the family. Thanks, Patti

no one wants to dive with a newbie!

I think joining a dive club is a great decision. I joined one in California and got to go on so many cool adventures that I never would have done on my own, and I am instructor so I dive almost every weekend - but these folks had so many good ideas and so much experience and they made diving...

Why I won't dive with you.

Dao Jones - good point. Some people get so used to hearing themselves brag, they forget who they are bragging to! Now that you are going through training, you are noticing all of your friend's problems. Maybe you should just talk to him and tell him of your concerns. I had a close friend...

    Divers turning into fish

I know it is not a fish - but I want to be a humpback whale. I could sing the ears off any fish in the sea! Patti

    Jellys?

"Hasn't ANYONE looked at Thalassamania's profile without a guffaw reaction. " He looks like a cute kid to me - probably a fun guy to have around. Some folks take everything soooo seriously. Lighten up a little bcaderunr, please, before you give yourself a heart attack. Patti

    Jellys?

Thalassamania I don't know what type of stings the thimble jellies have - but these stings looked distinct, raised, roundish, quite painful apparently. Patti

    Jellys?

I was diving in Cozumel one day when a fellow diver was stung multiple times by jellys - they got into his wet suit. They must have been so tiny they were virtually invisible because we did not actually see them - but then we were not actually looking for them. They were probably juvenile box...

What is the oddest thing you've found on the bottom of the ocean?

One day at Coral Street in No. Cal, we came around the corner and there was a pair of new blue jeans...a little further on was a microwave oven, and more stuff, a can opener, calendar, more and more. Upon surfacing we noticed a lot of activity nearby. A boat was sinking and the Coast Guard was...

Congratulations, Diver! Don't let these guys scare you. Figuring out what gear you want and buying it is half the fun - why else would we keep buying more and more of it?? Patti

How much would you pay to dive here????

Wildcard - I almost visited Homer a few years back. I called several outfits there asking about diving. I was also interested in seeing the Puffins and going out on the ocean to see big ocean creatures. The only reason I did not do the trip was the transportation issue. At the time I was...

    'Chica and the fish...

I loved these pictures and the beautiful story they tell. Creatures often interact with us in the water when we slow down and let them. So many times we rush past them to get to our "spot." (I wonder how old a bass his size is.) Slow down and smell the fishes. Patti
