Best time of year to dive Coco View?

I always go Feb. EOM. But, then, I live in the great white north & I need a winter break by then. Have also gone in May and Aug. Of those, I prefer Aug. Very warm and dry.

Who dove on New Years Day?

Missed New Year's Day. Went in the St. Clair river yesterday, though. 3' viz and a bit cool.

    anyone still diving local?

Ray, Was that your yellow truck? If so, we were the old folks with the big blue f150 that came in after you. Sure was a good day, eh?

    Scapa Flow

I agree with Steve. Very good book. Prepped us very well on what to expect/look for. You'll love it.

Thanks for the reply, Doc. I appreciate the info.

Two Divers Die In Same Incident

What he said. If you go to Scapa, all those drysuit skills should be second-nature. Besides, that way you can focus on the ships, rather than focusing on the suit! ;)

    plavix question

I posted this on an older thread, but got no response, so I guess it got lost due to age. I had an angio w/stent 2 months ago. My cardio MD said go back to diving in two months (after I'd sailed through my stress test). The question is as follows: He has me on Plavix (the more expensive...

    Diving with Coronary Artery Stents?

I realize this is an older thread, but its relevance is not. I have a question along these lines. I had an angio w/stent 2 months ago. My cardio MD said go back to diving in two months (after I'd sailed through my stress test). The question is as follows: He has me on Plavix (the more...

Two Divers Die In Same Incident

I agree. Scapa is cold, dark, and deep. Diving here in the Great Lakes was great prep. We heard stories from them about folks coming from the US who had no real cold water experience, let alone live-boat practice. That all came out AFTER they'd watched how we dove for two days. As...

    Age & Rank

Man, we're a bunch of geezers, eh? I'm 55, wife 61. Both passing the 800 dive mark this year. I LIKE that aarp discount idea!

    Isle Royale trip questions

The dives aren't guided. There's a book out, though it may be hard to find. My memory is that it's called "The Shipwrecks of Isle Royale" (or something like that) that goes into detail on the wrecks up there. I'd also cast about the web. I'm sure you could turn up more info. You'll love it...

    whites vs viking

I, too, have an x-treme. I've got 2+ years/100+ dives with it and am still very pleased with it. In the land (sea?) of zebra mussels, I've found it very durable. I'd buy another one in a minute.

is there good diving in Costa Rica?

I dove up in the NW - Sol Playa Hermosa w/Bill Beard's old outfit. I enjoyed the diving, but you should understand it's not caribbean viz. We had 20-40 feet (el niño helped clear it). Dove locally and also took the Bat island trip they offered. Saw shark, a manta, lots scorpion fish, etc...

    How many dives per year?

I do between 65-100 dives per year, between the local lakes, the great lakes, and a great river close by, plus a trip or two a year.

Great news, Paula. See you at Union Lake sometime, now that you've got gear again.

GEAR STOLEN - Union Lake boat ramp

That is indeed awful. We've been diving there for years and I never heard of anyone having anything stolen. That settles it. I will continue donning everything in the parking lot and making the trudge across the road fully geared up. I assume you dropped off a list of your stuff at U/W...
