PolsVoice:
My laptop (a Toshiba Satellite Pro) does not have a serial port so I went to SUUNTO's website to check my options and lo and behold, all I needed was a Serial/USB adapter. After trying this, my machine still could not find the Cobra dive computer saying that it does not detect the computer on any of the ten com ports. I've tried the test mode with the computer attached, detached, rechecked all the connections on the cables, etc. ...

Here is what SUUNTO said about your question:

I have had similar experiences on my own PC. However, it works although the SDM does not find the interface when running the “test” function.

When you install the USB-serial adaptor sw it adds the USB-serial adaptor as a device for which you can set the COM port to be used

- go to windows device manager and check the com port setting for the usb-serial adaptor

- set SDM to use the same port

- in my current laptop this works although SDM does not find the cable

In my old laptop, I also had to mark the “disable USB error detection” box under the device manager usb adaptor settings before it worked, so you might want to test it too.

regards,

Sten

p.s. next dive manager version will support USB better.

I hope this helps. SUUNTO is great about answering questions. Same day service. Now that is good, expecially considering the time difference.

Send an e-mail to Suunto explaining the problem and they will send you a patch and the instructions that will fix you right up. If you want you can send me your e-mail address and I will send you what they sent me I think I still have it). Mine is for the Vytec but I think the patch will work on any of them. The problem is that your computer is recoginizing the adapter but nothing hooked to the adapter shows up, the patch fixes that problem.

Good Luck

I need the patch for my Vytec, can't get the usb converter to work with Jaime's serial equivalent.

Has anyone conducted satisfactory bussiness with this outfit? http://www.athenshomesolutions.com/id19.html

On December 8 I paid for their Suunto cable interface through PayPal and after more than one month and several emails to them, I cannot get a confirmation of my order (much less the actual goodie). I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but my patience is wearing thin and I'm bound to believe I may have been stung by them. Confirmation of their existence would be appeasing.

Thanks for any feedback.

I just ordered the same cable and experianced the same sort of delay. However, I did receive my interface and it works great. You'll get the interface eventually, don't worry. Even with the delay I'd still order the interface again. With the cost savings it's well worth it.

I ordered the Suunto D3 kit. It came quickly. It was missing a instruction sheet and that page of the web site was down. But he quickly got that page up and running. I would do business with him again.

He's a member here, so maybe he will see this thread, and respond. I have never heard of anyone getting "stung" by him, so I wouldnt worry...

Jamiei, you around???

Remember, we just went through the holidays so delays from anyone is really no surprise. I recently received mine and it works great. You just can't beat the price!

I am using his kit, works like a champ and a fraction of the price.

I ordered and received the Suunto interface in about 3 weeks, which I though was very good, considering it was the holiday season. I had some technical difficulties with the DiveManager software recognizing the interface, but some searching on this board and some help from Jamie fixed that within a week. All is now working well and I am very satisfied (although I wish the DiveManager software was a little more functional).

If you PM "jamiei" I am sure he will assist you
