Yes - still closed - it's rough out there. There were more than a few complaining that it was closed yesterday but it was rough out there and only getting worse - sometimes you question the calls but he seems to have good forcasts..

Port is open
From the Port Captain:

Good morning to the entire maritime community of Cozumel. The port opens to navigation for all recreational water activities and fishing from 07:00 due to improved weather conditions

Southern reef is closed
Port Captain:
Good morning to all the maritime community. Starting at 06:00, navigation to small vessels from Palancar to Punta Sur and from Punta Sur to Punta Molas is closed, due to southeasterly winds above 30 km/hr and gusts above 35 km/hr. It is recommended to take extreme precautions and not go too far from the coast so as not to expose yourself to the wind and waves. *Let's safeguard human life at sea and take care of our sources of income.*

South end is going to be breezy again tomorrow, wouldn't want to venture past Columbia even if it is open.

It's rare to see closures from southeasterly winds, but 35 km/hr is over 21 mph. Too rough for pangas.

We were there last year when the southern dive sites were closed.
Our boat was unable to pick up divers at the Iberostar because the waves going over the pier. People staying at the occidental had to get out at allegro after diving, and walk to their resort. We couldn’t get up to the occidental after morning dives.
Rare, but something I will think about when considering hotels.

This is a winter time thing with these strong winds....... Pier pick ups can easily be ugly here and while it is a luxurey, it's something you shouldn't count on - one little slip can be life changing!!!

We are thankful the port captain allows the port to remain partially open and with that being said, it is the operators responsibility to be extra vigilant in regards to safety - let's not give the port captain a reason to doubt our ability to operate safely.

Strong SE winds are pretty common when we go to Cozumel in April-May as well.
