PerroneFord:
I'd estimate the Atomics are about 2-3 times as expensive as the Zeagles. And I have no idea if there is an Atomic chart. I pay their gear very little attention. Far too expensive for nearly no gain over other quality regulators.

But some people like paying $1200-$1500 for piston regs, so who am I to tell them how to spend their money.

WOW!! Do they get kissed when they write the checks??? :mooner: Not sure where you're looking at the prices Perrone but piston vs diaphram for the same quality is almost equal. Just check the Scubatoys website.

EZhoops, I'm sure Larry can give you an excellent price on either reg. Personally, if I'm chosing between the two, I'll go with the Atomic. Nothing against the Zeagles, I just like the Atomics a bit better.

You know what? You're right. In looking, it appears that I was thinking of the Atomics Titanium regs. Their other regs are more inline with other top performing regs.

That said, when someone mentions "Price is a big issue", like the original poster, I don't know that Atomics would be the first thing out of my mouth.

Like I said my wife has an atomic 2 and I've used it and I have no complaints but keep in mind I've only ever used one other reg and it was a us scuba about 9 years old but I even like it. I don't want to have to worry about something being hard to breath at depth cause that will cause me to FREAK OUT. Looking back at my wifes receipt I realize that she got RIPPED OFF big time and now I'm pissed at our LDS. She paid $720 for an atomic B2 regulator with swivel and the annual safety inspection cost $47 and the 2 year overhaul is $65 not sure if that includes parts or what.

Her octopus is a calypso/titan octopus = $139.50

ok so she bought everything as a package and saved $80 big deal.

Another thing, atomics website says they don't sell online so It would look like I'm stuck if want to buy an atomic to going to LDS and getting ripped off.

Whats a reg that is good at depth and not too expensive, lets say my budget is $300?

yes there is but they are a PADI store and I'm an SSI diver, I know that makes absolutely no difference. I like the second shop its closer but have never dealt with them, I'll check them out.

really only 2 shops in my area

here is my shops website

and the other shops

So, is that Zeagle looking better to you now? If I had a budget of $300, I'd buy a Zeagle Envoy or Envoy Deluxe and call it a day.

Darn near any reg is gonna be fine at 100-130ft.

I have an atomic, and even though I've tried other regs, I still go back to it even though it's one of the 1st models they produced (Ti2 bought in 1996 I think). I have never used a zeagle, but I've heard good things about them. I've never heard the problem with breathing effort at 60 ft, but again, I've never used 1.

If you look at the independant reports, Atomic consistantly ranks right at the top.

One thing about servicing. If you get a sealed Atomic, the service will be pretty high because they use about an ounce of crystolube in the sealed chamber. That's about $12 just for the lube. That's probably why your wife's 1st stage overhaul was so high. If the $65 was for the complete reg, then that's not too bad at all. And since you only have to get them serviced every2 years, then it's a bargain compared to regs that have to be serviced each year. Plus, they have models that aren't sealed, so that would eliminate the crystolube

I'm sure Larry can beat that B2 price. I'm not up on all the new models, but I think the Z2 model is the entry level. That should save you so more money.

I travel often around Asia and Apeks is everywhere, I have an ATX200 and love it. If you go to Divetank.net Rich will give you a great price and you get a free octo till end of July.

Atomic reg retail start at $500 for a Z2.

Over the life of a regulator, the Atomics are actually very competitive. After 4 yrs, you service a reg twice vs 4 times for any other reg.

An Atomic Z2 for $500.00? I don't know about Zeagle regs and prices but I know that if you get an Apeks ATX200 it'll be the same price as a Atomic Z2 or maybe less pending on who you buy from. Two time regulator of the year. That tells me something about Apeks family.
