More than you think
:D

But why did you decline? Is there anything wrong with saying I'm a woman or I'm a man?
As a person who declined to state you may have problems with posting in the women views if this part of the board would closed to any other genders but females
:D

I think that requiring to put "female" on the profile for entry is pretty silly. It does not mean anything like already said, it's just another lie to concoct if so desired. Many people here know I have declared my gender many a time, couple of them moderators too. Hopefully it would be enough if I wanted to participate in that forum. I do not think I would be such an active poster on Women's Views to be honest. I do not think those issues are stupid but I am not too girly a girl and find guys' issues more interesting more often :D So it probably would not be much of an issue.

And the reason I do not put "female" on the profile. I do not do that on internet, period. There are too many twisted people and marketers who will have too easy access to check my "femaleness" without any work then. No thanks. Also, why make it so easy for anyone to judge my posts by checking my gender with one glance? I announce it if I like when I am posting. Why should it matter.

mania:
BTW piikki what gender are you?
Because your profile shows you declined to say.

Maybe you are a men
:D:D:D

I think it is nice that you again ask piikki if she is man--several other poster have accused her of being a man that is just using this post to nail women--and I think it is nice that we have someone from the Scubba Board staff again asking her to again declare if she is a woman and to take personal shots at the OP--it really helps with the discussion of the issue the OP bought up--GOOD JOB SCUBA BOARD--GOOD JOB!!

Add me to the list of those who most frequently approach a SB session via the "New posts" button.
Also, I tend to enter a thread based on the title, and pay little or no attention to the
column indicating in what forum the thread resides.
Finally, I am male.

Several comments:
1) IIRC, (and can some of the other "long timers" confirm??) there was a thread similar to this several years ago- which led to the "womans' forum" title being changed to what it currently is. I believe many of the arguments put forth in this thread were pu forth then, which resulted in the reverse title change. Again, if memory serves, the resulting split in that forum ("diving related" vs "non diving related") was to help inform potential readers that the (non diving related) thread might include "more personal" women's related issues -e.g. the "diving during my period" type question- that some might prefer to not read.

2) I second the suggestion that using the "report post" button is one of our options to direct the Mods' attention to inappropriate posts. That can and should be used, regardless of the forum. It might cut down on the inappropriate postings.

3) I have occasionally posted in the "women's forum," regardless of the title, and have more frequently learned about various opinions on the issues found in the posts located in that forum. I would not want to be excluded from that merely due to gender.

What I'm hoping is that if there is a change made that the mods will take a look at all the opinions, not just at the most frequent and vocal posters.

I am female, I have no problem saying so. If you think that means that I am less of a diver then I suggest you come out for a dive with me. But just as non DIR divers would like to read the DIR forum, and nonSolo divers read the SOLO forum, I think the Women's forum benefits from some of the postings and insights that come from MEN. The difference is that posters need to be aware of the environment that they are posting in. If they are off base, report it, don't exclude them all. It's just throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Women ARE in the minority in the diving world. It is useful to have a Women's forum to discuss issues related to women......in case no one has noticed, we ARE physically different. It's very easy for our issues to be drowned out and missed in the main forums since we are a minority of divers.

And finally, yes, I can carry my own doubles, TYVM. But if you'd like to schlep them for me, thank you. I'll also let you open the door for me, smile sweetly and say thanky you. I'm capable, but I'm not stupid. :D

Leave all genders with access (this includes males, females, hermaphrodite, transsexuals, and asexuals) to the Women's forum.

piikki:
I don't think it's about the profile as much as that obvious infractions get weeded out. You get warned and then you just are out of the forum.

There are for example the "one-liner" offenders who just won't go away. If they are in context nobody finds them funny (chauvinist jokes on Womens Views for example), and have nothing to contribute but to distract and sometimes even intimidate participants and prevent discussion, just get rid of them. Many people lack tact, some people lack any self control. One does not need to do much analysis to pick up the obvious offenders. It's pretty plain to see.

This is a great post...In my short time here, I've seen so much of this..it's very off putting. It seems there is a small group of people on this board that are allowed to continously run amuck without repercussions.

I've posted to the Women's Views forum (as I am now), usually to answer a question from my wife's perspective. She isn't a SB member, but she lives it vicariously through me. And if it's something I'm not sure about, I'll even ask her. And I try to mention that I am posting my wife's perspective.

I'm also an instructor and like to see what women's views are so I can improve my teaching if I see a topic that seems important to women.

BTW, in the instructors forum we all just make fun of those who don't have access to it!!!!! :D :D :D :D

j/k actually, for those that are interested, lately we have been using it to discuss how to improve the various courses we teach. We also use it to discuss specific problems we've had in classes or with students and how to handle them. If this forum was open to the general population, some might not be willing to post in it.

Well Leah....
As a matter of fact I was joking
Thus smiles.
