I, for one, would just like to express my pleasure to see that women, while on a women's sub-forum, can behave just as contentiously as men do on most all other sub-forums here.

You go girls!

As for me, I think that men potentially can provide a great deal of valuable information and insight to women, if they choose to. That is, if they don't go out of their way to act like jerks. And, of course, vice versa. Some of the best medical advice I've seen on here has come from men (no offense TSandM, you've given lots of good too), and a lot of that has had to do with diving while pregnant. Definitely a women's issue, definitely answered by men.

Seems a shame to exclude anyone in any area, since inappropriate remarks and contributions (obviously) don't really seem to be a sex-related affliction.

(Oh, and no, I don't routinely cruise the women's forums as a rule, but like others have said, you all show up when I do "New Posts")

:rofl3:

BTW, Y'all do know that if you go to Quick Links, Edit Options, Exclude Forums from "Get New Posts", you will be able to exclude all unwanted forums from your "New Posts" Search Results? :)

Well, now I do. Geez. :)

Why should men be allowed on the womans board? Well I made the mistake of asking a quesiton on the general forum about doing air shares with my female assistant instructor. There were about 8 or so posts from woman explaining that I should not think about who is on the other side of the air share, just do the air share. The rest of the posts were BS about how I am timid of woman and women should not be relied on as buddies. Three times I tried to end the discussion. It would not end.

Had I thought about it, I should have asked the question here.

This sub forum has a purpose, and not just for woman but if men are respectfulthey should be allowed to take part.

Now in the men's defense when you click on new posts and see a thread from the women's forum, it does not says women's views forum--it says--Diving Related" or "Non Diving Related" so I suspect that many men reply and join in the women's forum and don't know what forum they have posted in until after the fact.
Bingo!
That's certainly been the case with me. Sometimes I'll find I've contributed two or three interesting and informative posts to a thread before realizing I'm in the women's area. But that doesn't embarrass me nearly as much as when I realize I've gotten into a "DIR" thread unintentionally :D

Wow...just got back from vacation and saw this thread.

The womens views forums are definitely needed. Obviously, my website is about promoting the sport of scuba for females. About 50% of the women who are drawn to my website are either 1) considering certification 2) going through certification or 3) within 3 mos. of certification. New divers with all sorts of questions about this new sport they've become involved in.

They are coming from this site...and this forum.

When I got into diving, I was lucky to have other female "mentors" that I could ask questions of. But I hear from women on a consistent basis that are involved with a primarily male shop, and don't feel comfortable asking "girly questions". If they can find this forum, and the history here...it enables them to gain access to answers to those questions.

As for a "women's forum" being somehow exclusive...

First, for the men who expressed that women and men are equal...yes...and no. If you'll look back at your sex ed stuff, you'll note that we have different body parts. If you move into high school biology class...well, yeah, we've got different chemicals floating around in our bodies as well, and those really do make us different. We socialize differently, we have different "needs" and while the profile of the dive community is starting to show a change, it's still a primarily male community.

That said, I think that having men's views in the womens forum IS handy. And I think that if the forum was "color coded" it would allow men the opportunity to direct their answer to the audience receiving it.

That is exactly how I found your website and it has been very helpful to me.

I think having different points of view is a great thing. I also think having a heads up as to the audience that you are addressing is also helpful in formnig your response. I think the addition of the banner at the top of the posts is a good thing to give people a heads up. Thanks to El Orans for making that happen. I have enjoyed my PM chats with him and he is a fine fellow.
