Leah just Chill for a minute.

hmmm... this is kind of odd.... she's just expressing her opinion, quite rationally

i don't see a need for her to chill

santafejoe:
How about if we have a Men s View forum just like the Womens View forum.

this is not really solving the issue, as i understand it from this thread, which is that men are being disrespectful to women's questions and issues in the women's forum

Andy i do understand that Men not all mind you are being disrespectiful to Womens questions in this forum and it should not be like this. I am sure if we had a Men s View forum the same thing would happen from a few Women being disrespectiful to Men s questions. No matter what one does it will always be a problem.Yes Leah has every right to say what she need s to say.

I'd like links to threads were men feel women overtook the discussion, ridiculed mens topics or otherwise prevented men having their voices heard.

Should the women’s forum be an opt in forum like it is with the Surface Interval, DIR, Single Divers and so forth? .... only those who declare female gender on their profile? :D

Yes.

Seems pretty obvious; moderators take note!

Great idea, but what is gonna stop male members from changing their profile? :shakehead

... There are some "voices" on the 'board that tend to run over others and I am sure that there are some people that would rather post in a forum where they feel they can get an answer from similar divers whether it be women, men, DIR, solo, or photographers....

+1

Those "voices" have been neutralized by the 'ignore user' option on my SB forum viewing.

I don't miss the sarcastic and uninformative postings at all!

I think that from reading this thread, that opting in is an option, and do not keep men out, for all the reasons mentioned, I also think that having the rt side "non-diving related" tag that shows up on New Posts changed to "Womans Views, Non-Diving" and "Womans Views, Diving" would help some .. there are many who post that don't even notice that it's in the "Womans Views Forum"

There are several measures we could take to tackle this issue, ranging from the silly to the draconian.

But it all comes down to the participants in the thread, regardless of its location (DIR, Solo, Wonen's Views etc.). If they're not willing to stay on-topic, there's only so much we can do.

I don't think it's about the profile as much as that obvious infractions get weeded out. You get warned and then you just are out of the forum.

There are for example the "one-liner" offenders who just won't go away. If they are in context nobody finds them funny (chauvinist jokes on Womens Views for example), and have nothing to contribute but to distract and sometimes even intimidate participants and prevent discussion, just get rid of them. Many people lack tact, some people lack any self control. One does not need to do much analysis to pick up the obvious offenders. It's pretty plain to see.
