Thanks for the info guys. The MR12 Voltrex history lesson was especially interesting, and thanks for the book recommendation, I will definitely give it a read. I'm tempted to ask the tech about the LP seat, but it sounds like its more of a "value" issue then a functionality issue. The shop is across town and I'd probably spend $5 in gas getting there and back so I'm not quite sure its worth it. It's amazing how much I have to factor the cost of gas into everything these days...

I am a fairly technical person being an engineer, and I enjoy working on the things that I own. I am a hands on kind of person and I really enjoy learning about how things work. I love simple machines that I can open up and instantly understand how they work. Additionally, I think it's important to understand how things that you use for life support work.

Thanks again guys. This thread has been very educational for me.

Regulators are NOT life support, that's just a sales pitch designed to justify BS policies by the dive gear industry. You learned to share air and swim to the surface, didn't you? That's your "life support."

Get the Vance Harlow book. You'll like it and you'll have some fun doing your own regulator service. Call the shop (gas is expensive, phone calls are cheap) and ask if the guy replaced the LP seat, and if so, where is it, and if not, why not?
