Hey there everyone.

I'm a diver in Washington and will be buying my first set of gear soon. I'm diving in puget sound/Salish sea which has an average year round temp of 50 degrees give or take. I have narrowed it down some to the following regs and was wondering if I could get some opinions on them....

Sea Elite RX650 BOSS
mares prestige 32
Oceanic GT3 w/CDX5 1st stage
Oceanic Delta 4.1
Aqualung Impulse

The first four regs are available in a package-deal though a new york state dive shop chain (divers-supply) that would save me money. If you have any other regs you might suggest I'd like to hear about them also. thanks

They should all do fine. I am scubapro guy, and would like to add these to your list:

mk17 g250v
mk25 s600 or a700

Sherwood Blizzard! My son took his ice diving course a few months ago and everyone (instructors included) had free-flow issues...but not him!

I've been diving regularly through the winter in 35 degree water with no problems at all.

For me its Apeks, Scubapro or Atomics.

In a lesser priced reg I would probably consider a HOG coldwater set. Tough to beat those prices.

Even detuned my MK25's have froze open in cold water (>40degreeF) my Apeks haven't.

I have not used any of the regs on your first list, I am a scubapro guy as well.

For cold water get a sealed first stage, like a Mk17. The only reg from SP I don't like is the x650 because of freeflows.

As a point of clarification, 50 degrees is not "cold" water. Below 40 is cold, 40-50 is cool, 50-60 is warm and anything over 60 is bathwater.

Mk25 is not a cold water reg. Try a Mk17, I do not think you will be able to freeze it up, I know I have not frozen mine.

They used to advertise it is a cold water reg. It had something called T.I.S.. It is some teflon sleeve. That is supposed to make it a cold water reg. I've also read where folks have packed the spring area with silicon.

Maybe their definition of cold water and mine are different.

My buddy has the MK17. Nice first.
