Scuba Duba Doo:
Actually the quebec gov't is only looking at its own citizens health because outside visitors/tourists can get a temporary card for $5.00 by just producing a C-Card.

It's worse than that: unless you've "shown" that you can dive here, you must do a checkout dive with an authorized instructor (could be DM, not sure). If you don't perform "satisfactorily," you'll need to take some classes...

Meanwhile, I'm kicking myself for participating in this proverbial opening of a can of worm...

Wardric, shoot me now!!!

ah-HA! SSI has the 3 / 1 .. my primary is on my right, my octo, computer and BC inflator are on my left..

In my SSI class we all had the primary and spg/console on the right, and the octo and BC hose on the left. This is in case you lose your reg, all you have to do is reach behind your head on the right and grab a hose. If you get your reg you can breathe, if you get your console I guess you can bite it off and breathe out of the leaking hose. If you look to your left you will see a yellow hose leading from your tank into the muck on the bottom; follow it and you'll find your octo.

Going the DIR route didn't take much convincing.

True.......bringing up Politics=Bad Idea. Bringing up Politics when it comes to Quebec=Just plain Stupid.

Wardric better save a bullet for me.

Well, that's wierd; I'm SSI OW and we were taught (book and instructors) that it's always 2nd stage & octo over the right shoulder, BC inflator & gauges over the left. It makes perfect sense, and when renting gear in Hawaii it was all as I was taught.
Did SSI change recently, or do we all have funky instructors?....

If you use an AIRII or similiar, your secondary will be on the left.

Well, here's where I get b'fuddled in semantics.... There's 'secondary air source', which is what an octo is? But I was referring to 2nd stage, as in, 'primary air source' - I apologize for the mixup. AIRII would take over for the octo, no?, and then it would be on your left - but AIRII isn't taught at my LDS, and it looks like a highly personal thing so may not be taught anytime soon....?

It makes so much sense to have your 'breathing-air' on the right, and 'equipment-air' on the left, I never considered that people would be taught differently (reinforced by having all the diveboats I've seen do it that way too).

But anyway, we digress.

OK I want to dive with this captain. I want to take my 60 pound lift bunged bp/w setup. Add my non dumpable weight pocets with weight in it, since i don't see the need to have dump 6 pounds. I think this could be fun.

Can you send me info in this charter and captain since I see a road trip ahead in the near future. But I also think I will have to bring the video camera with me. Anyone up for a road trip?

I'm with you!

Whatcha say MikeF? You in?

How about you Perrone?

I bet we could give that Capt a coronoray!

If you are a good ol' quebecois, you have to make at least 10 dives in 3 years to avoid the exam but you still have to pay for your friggin' Q-card. How can that be serious. First, it's easy to forge false dives and second, even if you made the dives, does 3 dives a year garanty that you'll be a safer diver???

:shakehead i knew there was a reason i didnt usually join these types of arguements! :blinking:
Uh yah, I seem to remember this, but I remember my Sherwood Brut 1st stage port placement didn't exactly let me do it without a hose dug into the back of my neck because it wanted to route to on the other side, so I quickly changed to the 2-2 config before getting very far in OW; nobody said anything. I also just busted out my SSI OW Manual and all the pictures show the typical 2-2 config, so I'm not sure why they teach that anyways.

BTW entertaining post, gave me a good laugh
