The longest wait I have ever had in CZM was about 45 minutes. High season Saturday with three plane loads and only 2 1/2 of the 5 immagration posts manned. Similar occurrence in CUN this winter with a 1 1/2 hour delay and again the delay was due to staffing the immagration posts. The government actually put out a press release after the CUN incident apologizing and promising to better manage staffing in the future.
I once was in line at the CZM kiosks for more than two hours (longer than we were in the air from Houston) when four planes landed within a very short period of time. I was on plane #3. When I got to the line the serpentine waiting area was full and there were two more unroped loops inside and then out the door. When I first arrived there were only two open windows in Immigration, although after an hour or so they opened one more.

I'm pretty sure weather delays made the plane arrivals stack up more than they anticipated.

Here's hoping SW extends this to Denver. We use SW a lot and we're about to do our third DEN-CUN next week. Last year I was able to purchase two RT tix DEN-CUN on SW using points and a companion tix so we only paid taxes and fees for each. Would love to get back to flying into CZM, but fares and schedule have been prohibitive.

Only flown SW once, Had a good flight with no complaints. With Delta scaling back its flights into CZM, this is a welcome addition.

Like their Chicago (Midway), IL - MDW to Grand Rapids, MI - GRR flight? Non-stop 137 miles.
That's in the US, not Mexico. CUN to CZM is something like 40 miles. And as another poster mentioned, it's not economical and it's also extremely rare that a foreign airline would be allowed to fly domestic routes.

Yes, well, if they'll fly a flight of 137 miles, which can't be very economical with landing & takeoff, they might find good reason to fly 40 miles and land. It may well not go that way, but I doubt that SWA has final plans on how it will go.

CUN-CZM would be more like Orange County to Burbank. (SWA publishes that route, but as a 1-stop in Las Vegas.)

While Mayan Air doesn't have the clout of AeroMexico, I don't think the government is generally inclined to approve 5th-Freedom flights: Mexican Authorities Block Emirates' Fifth Freedom for Barcelona Stop, and that extra stop wasn't even in Mexico. I don't see any Mexican cities on this list from last January: 5th Freedom Flights.

My advice is the same as given to all new SCUBA divers -- don't hold your breath.

Many years ago, and it must have been on Continental, our plane from Houston landed in Cancun first and then flew to Cozumel. It only happened once that I recall.

Decades ago, I made several flights from San Antonio to Austin. I think that was about 80 miles, and I guess they just left the flaps down. I wondered why the airline had that flight, but it was a hoot in 1988 during the triple mileage campaign, as I'd get 3,000 extra FF miles, back when they were valuable and easy to use, on the same priced ticket to Lubbock.

I would not like flying Houston to Cancun to Cozumel, and it may well not be allowed, but who knows what SWA is discussing in their current meetings. I'm sure Mexico would allow it for a price if SWA wanted to try it.

When we did it it was no big deal. We stayed on the plane and I doubt it was on the ground for more than 15 minutes. I had a book.
