IMO you have a pretty low threshold of what you consider to be an "out of control wind driven wildfire of controversy"; this discussion has been, again IMO, pretty tame and for the most part respectful of dissenting opinions. That started an out of control wind driven wildfire of controversy.
I do, however, take issue with the insulting characterization of posters who disagree with the claim that diving Cozumel is all "bare rock and coral ash" as "gushing... fanbois". This is a subforum dedicated to diving Cozumel; you should not be surprised that many (most?) of us who post here enjoy diving Cozumel and disagree with that gloom and doom (and empirically off base) assessment of conditions there by someone who has relatively little experience diving Cozumel. No one here has denied that conditions on the Cozumel reefs have deteriorated to some degree over the past few decades, but the warming and contamination of the seas is a global condition; no reefs are immune.
But suit yourself; if you do not think that diving Cozumel is worth the trip, then by all means don't go there.
