Where did/do you get your training?

1. LDS/agency
2. Independant instructor outside LDS
3. Specialized Training agencies (FD/PD, Military, Commercial, NOAA, ect.)
4. Specialized Training agencies (Cave, Technical, ect.)
5. Internet
6. Friends & dive buddies
7. On your own, the hard way
8. other

Mixture of these.

BOW - Independent Instructor working with a college dive club

AOW, Rescue, DM, and IDC - overseas dive shops (a LDS for someone, not exactly local for me)

MFA - military medic training follwed by a LDS (just to get the card)

The independent instructor who taught my BOW was, by far, the best instrutor I had.

OW - Pro-Dive, Cairns Australia (PADI shop)

AOW - Sand & Sea Scuba, Dallas TX (PADI shop

TDI Advanced cirriculum -- independant instructor (Ron Carlo)

Formal training (OW, AOW, SLAM) has been with independent instructors (YMCA -- not affiliated with a shop)

Plenty of "OJT" with buddies/friends

Plenty of on-line and print publication reading & learning

Future:
DIR Fundamentals.......

My LDS is actualy a 1 man shop. He mostly has a shop to support his own habbit. so he sels gear to his students at close to internet prices and can spend whatever amount of time is needed for gear or training.

OW - Diver Dan's Wet Pleasure - Santa Clara, CA - PADI

AOW - Tavernier's Dive Center, - Florida Keys, PADI

Stress & Rescue - Hope to get this year at my new LDS. Captain Aqua - Hayward, CA - SSI shop

Other than that, plenty of diving with friends and family..

All of my training has been through my LDS. The owner is the instructor. Not only does he encourage on site pool training, he also hosts holiday parties and fish bbq parties in the summer. The shop has a very family atmosphere.

We got our BOW through our LDS - Captain Aqua's (SSI).

We just signed up for AOW (night/low vis, navigation, boat diving, deep diving) and we will use the same instructors from our BOW.

We will eventually do Stress & Rescue also through LDS.

We can't wait!!!

Roughly in order of aquiring them...

PADI - BOW/AOW/Videographer/MFA/RescueD/EANx:
TDI - EANx/Adv. EANx:

TDI - Deco Procedures: LDS/instructor reccomended by TDI - My regular instructor got his cert for Deco instructor while I got mine as Deco Diver on same class.
