I like batteries that are user-replaceable. I've seen some can lights where the battery is kinda pressed into the cannister and doesn't come out. Battery replacement means sending it back to the factory.

I've dropped my D/R 24w from the truck bed to the pavement about 30 times everytime I put my doubles on for about a week. (Now I have a bolt snap). But the light is 3+ years old and i've never replaced the bulb.

I have a 21w Halcyon which looks exactly as bright, same exact beam side by side, and I hope it's as durable. I only about 20 dives on it. But, point is, i've had pretty good luck with durability of HID bulbs. knock on wood.

I went through 5 bulbs before going to LED :) ...in about 3 years.

I've had my Salvo 21w for 3 years, nothing broke yet....hopefully it stays that way.

I dove the other night with someone who was using a homemade LED canister light -- he used optics to focus the beam, and it was VERY tight and quite bright. We had two HID lights in the water with it, and except for color temperature, you couldn't really tell them apart. (The HIDs are bluer.)

That said, I've had my Salvo 21W HID for four years, and most of my problems have been cord problems, apparently. I don't always know, because I send the light back to LM and they turn it around in 24 hours and send it back to me, and when they didn't charge me for anything, they didn't send me an invoice to tell me what was wrong :)

I have no idea how you go through so many cords

I know a guy who cut his in half once.
What an idiot! :D

i'm sure he didn't think it was as funny as I do
