So, I did the course with the Explorer 9/21 - you can read the trip report
here
As far as the light goes...
- Definitely happy with the output; bright, white & tight
- After being paranoid about bumping it for the first day or two, pretty happy with the durability so far
- Nice having the can to tuck the 7' hose under
- E/O cord turned out to be a big winner, glad I got it even if it was by accident. Good for packing, preventing accidental turn-on, and in case of getting it caught on something
However...
- As noted earlier the bloody slug/lighthead is huge & quite heavy
- The Goodman handle doesn't fit my hand very well - too wide (would be ok with thick gloves)
- As a result, if I have my palm vertical, the weight of the head/slug tends to drag it down and off my hand, which is annoying - when laying line I wound up clipping it off so it hung pointing down, and tilting it up with a hand if I needed to see ahead of me
- Still not impressed with the focus locking system
But overall, happy with it. Hopefully in the near future they'll bring out a higher output LED head, which should solve all of the above issues. And since I have the E/O cord, I'll be able to swap between them
