The donation process is well practised and very smooth
This too is a myth.

Without commenting on whether primary donate is better or worse … Almost all recreational agencies teach secondary donate. So secondary donate is the most commonly taught and practiced method. Again I do comment on whether it is better or worse.

Also, while many primary donate users have received high quality instruction from various Tec agencies, many also appear to be internet self taught with questionable levels of instruction, drills, knowledge and experience of using primary donate or a long hose configuration. See eg the thread below … (or the OP for that matter, since that was his first dive trip in long hose configuration).

That’s the myth. When the U.K. HSE did the research they found divers did what they were taught in an OOG situation.
Well, that’s really great that they did research. My ‘research’ is what has actually happened to me in real life. So you won’t convince me otherwise.

The long hose/primary donate is pretty standard in technical diving other than the BSAC outlier, for good reason.

I thought this was a thread on technical diving. What the recreational agencies teach is not really relevant. They also teach skills kneeling on a pool floor.

Here is BSAC Primary Donate Workshop, been running for 3 years.
