Aha! No longer regret having:

A dive slate. I wanted one, got one as a gift, and then was like "Uh... hmm.."

Took an advanced class (already advanced certified, but needed the nitrox portion and figured it'd be a good opportunity hone skills I had not done superbly on the first time around). Do the expanding square pattern, navigating off a 100' rope on the bottom was made much easier by having the plan written on my slate. Also good for remembering the way home.

You know,

I learned with every piece of equipment that I bought, so I can't condemn them now! However, I don't find any use for my TUSA Duo-Aires and I sold my 19 cf pony two years ago. Also, every single retractor that I bought now sits idle in my garage.

I regret buying the huge UK D8 light. I used it once, then it was borrowed a few times by another diver, and now it sits lonely and dusty on my dive gear shelf. I like my Princeton Tec lights better, and am saving for a can light. The big-***** knife I was required to buy for my wreck course to supplement the perfectly useful small one on my BC. The dive skin that I used once. The 3mm fullsuit & 2mm shorty (luckily I eBayed both for a decent price). The extremely leaky 7mm neoprene drysuit (should have spent the $$ for a decent drysuit first time around!) I don't use my snorkel while diving, except when I'm on course, but I really don't like it, either. The Roots wheeled duffel with backpack straps that doesn't fit all my dive gear sucks, too; I like my L.L. Bean duffel much better. Oh yeah, and finally, the 2 pairs of neoprene gloves that are too small.

I know there is a sea ninja going hypoxic from yelling “STROKE!!!” but at the time the Zeagle Ranger seemed like a good idea. (guilty secret: I got several years of fun diving wearing it) I do wish I had just gone the BP/W way first, they really are better…... I also wish I had listened and gotten steel tanks from the get go. The Aluminum 80’s are now stage bottles, but in retrospect, the buoyancy of steel makes them better for me. Oh yeah, the retractors and wrist slate seemed cool at the time, but not much use now…..

I regret buying the dacor rig 3 do to their pocket weight design. The back of the pockets are open with a narrow piece of webing there to keep the pocket from sliding out the back. The webing is less then a inch thick and the pouch in longer then the pocket so it hangs out the back. It is only secured by a inch or two of velcro in the front.

I dove the rig 2 alot and loved it so figured since dacor no longer made the rig 2 when I went to buy my rig I would get the rig 3. Well now it is a constant battle to keep my pockets from dropping to the ocean / lake floor. I have tied them for now though that defeats quick dump. I am desinging a clip system using spare webing and plastic clips to secure the pockets so i can squeeze the clips for fast drops if ever needed and at the same time dont have to worry about the weight sliding out.

Zeagle Ranger BC. I had to buy my gear right after certification, and the Ranger was it. If I would have only waited a month or two, I could have purchased an H or OMS BP/W. Now I have to deal with the wifey asking why I need to replace perfectly good/new dive gear. Oh well.
