I haven't bought anything that I didn't love. I have however gotten gifts.... Everyone has probably seen the uzzi dive flag swim trunks... I have tried them on but only good thing is if i go nude snorkeling in florida I will be legal if I leave them on the boat's antenna.

When I got certified my folks gave me a key chain that is neon colored plastic fins tank reg with mask....I still have it as a good luck charm but I feel so sorry knowing my folks bought it for like 5$ in florida.

I've rented a few tanks that were shallow fills (2500-2800 psi) and my gf got a tank that the oring area of the tank was bashed and the oring would no longer seal in the yoke....after working on it for an hour the tank was usable but she kept close just in case the oring burst. The LDS owner got a sore ear from me.

I've bought bargain film for my dive camera that left the pictures really blurry.

I have listened and bought gear after I've tried it out.

My Oceanic delta V regulator. Badly thought out, won't accomodate the long hose as far as I can figure out, and breathes harder than my sons Aqualung Micro which cost half as much. It is DIN though, and I LOVE that feature, except my adapter hits me in the head on rented tanks. My fins. XS Scuba jet fin knock offs size large. I bought them because the XL fell off my feet. I should've just got a bigger boot. Worse I had my spring straps put on them. I've now got the larger fins on order, will buy larger boots, and need to figure out what to do about the darn straps that I want to transfer to the new fins. The pins were mushroomed on installation and will not be reusable. The small fins totally lack propulsion power, even for a small person. ( at least it feels that way :-) )

Slates for writing under water. What was I thinking? I dive to get peace back into my life, not generate confusion from over simplified phrases and pictures! The darn things can be cumbersome, too. Waste of money and time if you're pleasure diving.

I've got a little hot pink fin keychain I found on the bottom someplace. Made a good zipper pull on my dive bag!

A cheap Shark Diver $30 underwater 35mm camera... CHEAP/LAME/PITIFUL.. lasted two dives

AND

A dive computer that is not Nitrox compatible. A waste... should have thought about the future.

AND

Snorkels suck. Have not used mine since certification.

Q: What did you buy that you regret?

A: Jacket-style BC

The Venture Wing with my Dive Rite Transpac 2. I could have gotten the Trek wing for the same price, but didn't think of it. Since I dive a HP steel tank, with my normal tank, my kit is neutral/barely negative, which sucks, but when you attach something heavier to it (like an old Faber steel 80), my kit crashes to the bottom like an anvil the second you let go of it.

It was a gift, but an AL-80 that I think I dove with 4 times. Discovered that being short, I hate aluminum tanks. I will tolerate EITHER being whacked in the head with the tank valve or hit in the butt by the bottom of the tank. Not both.

Retractor for my heavy ancient gauges. Fortunately Monterey critters are hearty, because it broke on the first dive. Now, I clip the gauge to my scooter ring; no worries.

Plana Avanti fins: Too much fin for me.

Olympus PT-020 housing. Was pouring ocean out of my battery compartment on my 4th dive with it. Now I have the Ikelite and have never had the slightest problem with it.

Black skirt, narrow view mask (for too much money). What seal? What eel? What boat? Now, I love my Aqualung Mythos.

My first BCD. Ick. IT was ok for oh... I dunno... maybe 40 of my dives. Took some getting used to & by the end I wanted a BP/W. Part of the problem with it was that they just didn't make them in a small enough size to accomodate me. I'm not that small of a girl either & it's a very adustable BCD, but the Small that I have (the smallest size they made) is too big. Plus it's got a ridiculously huge lift capacity & therefore, being a back inflate a rather bulky horseshoe shaped wing.
I'm MUCH happier with my Halcyon Eclipse rig. Mmmm... it fits properly, helps with the trim & truly is the next best thing to diving naked. Nothing impedes my movement while dealing with students. It's a oy to dive in & a joy to teach in. Though I do use the old BCD for the confined water stuff.
