nitroxbabe once bubbled...
OMG
First I'd like to know what dive operation you were all with. I dove the Spiegel Grove just a month ago, with 2 different outfits, and both were scrupulous in checking that we were all AOW.
Second, I'm with the CKDG. Remember, you can't help anyone if you too are in need of rescuing. I may have descended that far off of plan to help someone, but not on 32%. O2 toxicity - instant blackout, drowning, etc. Not for me.
I would not have thought twice about helping someone if I was breathing 32, and the bottom was 130.
Ken, good job. It sounds like you were the only one who appreciated that it takes gas to do safety stops, and how quickly a dive can turn mandatory deco. One of the first "red flags" is when a diver can't work his computer (e.g., "I can't figure out how to get this to Nitrox mode, change my 02, etc.). I don't care if it's your first dive with a new computer, you should know the thing well before being on the boat. When the user's manual (or waterproof diagram) is consulted, that's not a good sign.
