OMG

First I'd like to know what dive operation you were all with. I dove the Spiegel Grove just a month ago, with 2 different outfits, and both were scrupulous in checking that we were all AOW.

Second, I'm with the CKDG. Remember, you can't help anyone if you too are in need of rescuing. I may have descended that far off of plan to help someone, but not on 32%. O2 toxicity - instant blackout, drowning, etc. Not for me.

I would not have thought twice about helping someone if I was breathing 32, and the bottom was 130.

Ken, good job. It sounds like you were the only one who appreciated that it takes gas to do safety stops, and how quickly a dive can turn mandatory deco. One of the first "red flags" is when a diver can't work his computer (e.g., "I can't figure out how to get this to Nitrox mode, change my 02, etc.). I don't care if it's your first dive with a new computer, you should know the thing well before being on the boat. When the user's manual (or waterproof diagram) is consulted, that's not a good sign.

This is pure speculation, but I got the feeling they not only did not know their computers, they did not know what dive computers are DOING when they display information. I don't think they understood how dive theory is applied THROUGH the computer. THAT is what was so disturbing.

I got the feeling they did their course work, and then promptly forgot all the physics they learned because they had computers, and felt they did not need to know it anymore.

Calculators are great tools, but you still need to know how to add!

I'm just pissed at them for not fetching my fin. I'm sure we'll talk it out and all will be well.
GUE divers are only trained to retrieve jetfins...if is was something else, they did you a favor and you owe them your life..

Maybe that was it? It was a huge conspiracy cuz they somehow (through telepathy no doubt) knew that I had a pair of jets in my garage and would bring them out of retirement with the demise of my Avanti Quattros? That could be the answer, the jets in my garage were sending out subliminal distress signals on the GUE only frequency (which I, of course, can't hear being TDI/IANTD trained), my buddies heard and responded!

Thanks for helping me to understand Eric!

Actually, telepathy hasn't been proven among GUE divers...they are just so bloody similar that they probably had the same thought at the same time and it looked like telepathy.

And as for their not being helpful, maybe they just did a delayed option #1 and waited until you guys entered the water to play their hand? ;)

Perhaps so.

Heh...I'll dive with you when I get down there....and I definitely would have gotten your fin and not been an a-hole underwater.

It's not telepathy, it's the Borg collective mind :)

I knew I was within the safety range of MOD-I jut PREFER not to dive that deep with 32%. BTW-it was multiple exposures over the weekend, but I was still ok.

I do not want to single out the dive op-they are good people who were appalled at the other divers behavior. Red lights do not stop people who are determined to drive through them, and right on subject ofr this thread, an AOW card don't mean nuthin!

I'm glad you knew you were within your O2 exposure limits. I guess I may have still hesitated to go that deep after a dope. You never know what they might do.

Do you mean to say that these people actually had AOW c cards?
Wow.
