Will probably try to schedule it to come in during DEMA... now the prob is how to get it down here to Panama in one piece... TACA airlines almost destroyed my present machine. They must have thrown it across the baggage compartment... knocked the cpu off the m/b and the drives out of their holders...

Any other "must haves"??? Need to do this in one smooth transaction...

I would put a smaller boot and application drive as your primary drive(say 250GB for that) and do a RAID with the 2 500gb drives - you will want the raid dedicated for video - especially if you are doing HD editing.

I Edit with

AVID Xpress PRO HD on a regular basis

I Also have numerous hours editing Pinnacle Studio Pro 9.1

I prefer AVID Xpress Pro HD but on occasion I'll go into my roots into Pinnacle.
I have edited many underwater videos with AVID and absoloutley love the program

I think my biggest thing with AVID is how hardware specific they are - if your system isn't a certified system, forget any tech support. I have TRIED to learn the Avid way of doing things, but the learning curve is pretty steep... I use Adobe's Video Production Suite and have found the third party plugin support the best. And the integration between apps, especially in the latest version is hard to surpass.

But Avid does have its Claim to Fame for being entrenched in Hollywood.

What do you shoot with? And I understand what your saying about AVIDS Hard specs. Im very biased towards it and I know that...but after I learned pinnacle which is very user friendly I was taught on an AVID and between after affects and AVID I can get exactly what I want outta my videos. But once again I do understand where your coming from, they're very specific on what machines they want their software on

Hi Groundhog, I've upgraded to Ulead video 9, started with 7, Can't recall the price but wasn't much. I just play with my own underwater video so it's not professional in any way but it really comes out nice. I never have any of the operating problems with Ulead that I had with my roxio and pinacle programs. I have 1 gig ram on a dell xp with windows xp pro

I'm currently shooting a SONY TRV950 in a Light & Motion Bluefin housing with external monitor while freediving. With the recent announcements from SONY in the HD arena, next year will probably be the year I make the jump to HD - not sure, but I may end up going with one of the new FX7's or the newly announced HVR-V1 when housings become available for it.

I recently made the jump to XP Pro 64 bit OS and work with Premeire Pro 1.5.1 and SONY's Full Suite (Vegas 6, DVDA3, Acid Pro 4 and Sound Forge 7). The SONY apps are blazingly fast and stable on this platform with 4GB of Dual Channel RAM and AMD Dual core processor. I have a 320GB Raid ) for video, 40GB Boot and 40GB Audeo drives.

Mac PowerBook 1.6 G4, 2 gigs of Ram, Mac G5 dual processor, 4 Gigs Ram, 3 250 Gb LaCie drives, Final Cut express, iMovie for quickie edits, Logic Pro 7 for music, which is my main gig.

I edit with AVID Pro HD at work on a PC (UGHHHH) and FinalCut at home both work but things are much more stable on an apple. I'm using 17" MacBook Pro 2 gig Ram and 500 GIG and 80 GIG FW Drives.. Footage from PD100A, PD170, I have a HDCAM but can't afford a housing yet.

AevnsGrandpa:
..I have been doing event videography and video editing as a side business. Enjoy it a bunch. My system is as follows;

P4 2.4 ghz 533 FSB
Intel 845PE chipset
512 meg ram
60 gig system drive
60 gig video editing drive
120 gig storage drive
Pioneer A05 DVD+R/W burner
Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5 Pro editing softwarewith Break out box for composite video and audio in and out.
Pro page includes a modified ATI AIW8500 AGP video card for real time composite output.

I did use Studeo 8 until last year when I upgraded. Currently only have an analog hi8mm camcorder but hopefully that will change in the future. (Would really like to get a Sony VX2000 or 2100).

Want to do U/W videoing but the housings cost TOO much!!

Jeff
