To be fair - you can set up a compass display that will continuously point North on the Perdix/AI/2 as well (in addition to the larger compass display) - the pointer just rotates in place versus floating around the edge of the display. That's brilliant!

You can combine up to 3 items in a mini display in one slot to avoid losing displayed data when using the compass needle in the other slot - but then that data is smaller/ harder to read… so a definite tradeoff on the Perdix vs the Teric! That’s why I wear both! While I don't really use the digital compass on my Perdix AI, I do think this is a cool feature. If I ever get a Teric, I would certainly turn it on. As @Joneill has shown you can do something a bit similar on the Perdix, but it's not really the same. You have to give up one of your custom display cells and I don't want to do that. But having the floating icons along the edge of the round display is really a super idea!
AI is not critical for me, but may be nice to use some day. Peregrine is not an option for me, as my main reasons for upgrade are the digital compass and the "visible at night without having to push a button" display. How critical is AI for you?
For your needs, sounds like a Peregrine + Suunto SK8 wrist compass would be a more appropriate choice. Seems like you’re buying a lot of computer for recreational dives.
