If it got hot enough to internally melt stuff while wearing it, your arm would also be scorched!
Wouldn’t the plastic housing acting as insulation between my arm skin & the circuit board?

The depth sensor failure happened during my checkout dive after a long flight to Indonesia. I didn’t wear it during travel. I just put it in its case in my carryon backpack. I wore it in the morning before getting on the dive boat.

Some kind of short circuiting due to a leak was also mentioned by Dive-Tronix, which makes more sense.

Got my Teric back from Divetronix today. Apparently it had the new battery and they think it is likely the charger that they used to recommend. She sent me a couple of Peregrine chargers as the Perdix straps is a bit of a pain with the stock Teric chargers.

I am hoping with a Teric 2 or a firmware upgrade they can properly make the Teric work with standard Qi chargers.

After chiming in on this thread a few times over the past 18 months about my Teric having no issues, it seems it has finally caught up to me.
- Full charge, removed from its dock at 100%. Left screen off in a drawer.
- 21 hours 50 minutes later, battery is down to 78%.
- 70 hours later, down to 36%.
- Another 48 hours later, down to 20%.

Lost 64% in under 92 hours (less than 4 days), and then the decline slowed down over the following 2 days.
Would still have plenty juice for a full day of diving but something is now very wrong.

Is DiveTronix who to contact in the US?
Or should I contact Shearwater directly?

Changed my vote now...
Thank you!

Hi @tmrqs

Sorry to hear about the problem.

I would contact Dive-Tronix, as per the Shearwater contact page:

Mine doesn’t hold charge although it’s good enough to use for a day or two of diving and then charges overnight. The first time I asked SW for help they said it was within spec, which honestly frustrated me given their service reputation. It got worse over the summer and they agreed I could send it in. Will do that next time i’m back in the US.

Power management is tough. I obviously haven’t looked inside, but the ‘dumb’ charger they provide — which appears to have no power management and no trickle charging — makes me think they maybe need some extra technical help.

They definitely have had an issue here that, given their reputation, must be of large concern to them.

I had one of the very first batch of Terics and had the unit serviced in Dec ‘19 for battery issues - they pretty much rebuilt the entire unit except the case.

Due to Covid, that Teric sat idle until May ‘21. During that time it held charge quite well in storage, but after dive trips in May and July, I noticed much higher battery drain in storage. It got even worse after a Nov trip and I sent it back in (though never enough drain to cause a problem on a trip - just might have to recharge every night/other night.

It’s now back and it’s been 36 days since last charged and it’s at 90%. Fingers crossed it’s fixed for good. However, it is important to note that “for good” means ~ 5 years as that is the approximate expected life of these batteries.

Also - everything was covers the first time (shipping, etc.,) but I had to pay return shipping to Dive-Tronix this last time. No big deal as shipping is cheap. As usual, Dive-Tronix had quick service with great communication. I suspect they could literally swap batteries with their eyes closed at this point
My Teric has been good since the last (3rd) battery fix.

I dived with it in Aruba in July and again in Fiji in August and it has held its charge well.

I did not recharge it after my last day of diving (3 dives) in Fiji and, 28 days later, it’s still at 62%.

I’m on my 3rd terric. all for the crappy compass. battery seems to be holding up well. i fast charge it using a larger brick and turn in the fast charge setting. we’ll see.

What have been your issues with the compass? I have not heard of any wide spread compass issues previously. Mine has worked without issue and I find the floating North mark fantastic.

Hi @Skunky

As per @Joneill I have not heard of compass problems either. Could you please describe the problem(s). Were your Terics repaired or replaced by Dive-Tronix? What did they have to say about it?

Several specific problems have been brought up in this thread including short battery life, broken antenna and loss of AI, screen abnormalities, and pressure sensor issues. The thread and poll inquiring about specific Teric problems never took off Specific reasons(s) for sending in your Teric for repair(s) and/or replacement

I don’t fast charge and for the last several recharges I’m using a qi charger on a battery pack that allowed me to charge without removing the aluminum cover thing I have on one of them.

love the compass, I have the heading readout on on of the user set values, as you can see, right panel

showing 227°. It’s important to always do a reference reading before diving and if it’s off the recalibration is quick and easy, a lot of computers don’t have the user calibration which sucks (SP) and when I used other chargers I found it out of calibration often, not with the slow charger

i leave this in a window and the solar panel keeps it charged but I just recharged the pack using a conventional wall charger once I drain it. These things are less than $50 on the Amazon.
