The plot thickens...

Now that we talk about it, it reminds me of a reg review published late last year in a French mag where they hinted at "... a new generation of Scubapro second stage..." when they compared the Subgear Cayman to the SP 395, both mid-range, and they found the Cayman to be undisputedly superior.

Could this be the n-th attempt to kill the G250? I certainly hope it'll be the n+1th failure!
 
Kill? Subgear is SP which is Johnson Outdoors... The way i see this corporate strategy playing out is that old workhorse designs and new but no frills will end up in Subgear and everything shiny will be Scuba Pro. Think of it in the context of the car industry.
 
That's what I mean: possibly there'll be a new & shiny second coming to SP, and they attempt to kill the G250 to make way. The S555 is already "downgraded" to become "Cayman".
 
Seeing as how the best (IMO) SP regs have already been discontinued for decades, I wouldn't get too upset about this. There will be plenty of G250s around. I almost never use my G250 and I'd be happy to trade it for a good-condition pilot 2nd stage. I do use my G200B from time to time; same reg except no adjuster.

None of them are as good as the D series 2nds, though, and I would be willing to bet that lots of G250 divers that experiment with a 109 upgraded to balanced/adjustable (and fitted with a good mouthpiece) will eventually prefer the older metal reg. It is heavier and lacks the strong venturi assist of the G250, so initially it might feel a little clunky in comparison. But eventually the smoothness and lack-of-drymouth wins you over.

I'd bet the working parts of the C300 is nothing more than the X650 in a different looking package. And the C200 looks like it may have a different housing and body than the R-series but I suspect the rest of the "engine" is the same as the R-series. Looks like it is mostly a marketing ploy. Can't wait to see some schematics.
 
Maybe we'll have an easier time getting "subgear" parts.....

That would be a nice change.
 
Hey, the C300 does have a brand new feature called "Diver-adjustable coaxial VIVA", newly lifted from... Apeks!

But then the G250V is still on the US site filed under "Regulators".

You are showing your age there. Come on now, Olds would never put a Chevy engine in one of its cars.

This puts you into the over 50 group.


Next thing you will be telling me is that Mercury had ford motors in their cars.

Sorry, not to hijack the thead but... Remove the pin??? I have a G250V, I can remove a pin? Why would I want to do that?
 
If/when crud sets in, it can be very hard to remove the pin without damaging the body. I have a couple R series octo's like that, so now I remove all pins out of general principle.

I don't service my regs under water.
