DA Aquamaster:
Let's review...your girlfreind has a Scubapro G250, which is one of the most highly regarded regs in history (whether it has a Mk 10, Mk 15, Mk 20 or Mk 25 first stage) and she wants to get a new one because it is "old".

The problem is maybe not that the G250 is old but rather that the girlfreind is high maintenance. What happens in a few years when you are also considered to be a little "old"?

Dump the girlfreind and then buy yourself a new G250.

Failing that, your only other option is to buy her another G250 as if you buy her anything else, she will notice the drop in performance and dump you for being cheap and/or for having poor taste in regs. A Mk 17 G250 would be a good choice or maybe a Mk 17 X650. Both offer superb performance without breaking the bank.

Heh - yeah yeah.

Thanks for the advice regarding the reg though, I'll have to see what the first stage is on it, than see what pairing may be good.

Thanks again!

Wow. That is the strong statement. :05:

BTW, as I was told, G250HP is also going to be discontinued soon.
All the more reason to buy a new G250 as it is an exceellent regulator - better than the S600. As far as I know, there are no plans to discontinue women anytime soon. :D

Get the existing G250 overhauled. You can get new front covers, some in bright girly colors if it appears old. spend the saved $$$ on something that might actually need to be replaced with something better.
I've been diving Scubapro regs since 1983, but I'd really like to see some stability in their product line, or at least continued support for their older regs. Trade-in programs are not support.

Is that right from the troubleshooting chart or is that just a lot of experience interpreting test guage outputs? LOL

Aquamaster, I could not have said it better. Moreover, the G250, G250HP is a superb second stage. I assume it can be overhauled for less than the cost of a new reg. There are smaller seconds available and it might be that a woman would find such more comfortable or "feminine". However, considering that the plastic G250 weighs nothing underwater that may be moot.

My GF is using TX100 and S600. She doesn't notice the size difference in underwater at all. Actually, she likes TX100 more. Therefore, the size is also another cosmetic.

Even if it is discontinued the S600, and S550 have the same internal parts. Scubapro will be making the parts for a long time to come.

My G250's may be old, but so am I. They work great, and so do I. You'd have to ask your GF the real reason for her desire. If it is simply because her G250 is "old," is she driven by mindless consumerism? If so, probably too high maintenance for the long run. In that case, wrap her up carefully and send to me here on Catalina Island.

If she has really good reasons for wanting a new regular, post them here and we can pick them apart (er, I mean offer feedback). If you keep the current GF and get rid of the G250, you can wrap it up carefully and send it to me here on Catalina Island!

Sp has been very good with product support in regard to regulators. With the exception of the Pilot, Air 1 and 1rst generation AIR 2, they still support all the regs they ever made in terms of annual service parts and fully support most of them in terms of other parts that may break.

They also offer upgrades that allwo the use of current parts in older regs.

I am however getting a bit annoyed at the musical catalog thing and with dropping well regarded products for new, untested or even unavailable products. The D400/X650 thing is a good example with the D400 being introduced before the X650 was even ready and then of course the X650, a great reg by any standard once the bugs were worked out, was and never will be equal to the truly superb D400.

In reference to the S600 and G250, I could say something about women and how size does matter, but I won't.
