Below are pictures of a Mk 9, a Mk 5 with non swiveling cap, a late style Mk 5 and an early Mk 10 and a late style Mk 10 with SPEC boot.
A few notes:
The first two have the older all metal DIN connections, while the last one has the current metal and plastic Universal DIN connection.
The yoke equipped Mk 10 is shown with the upgraded plastic yoke knob while the Mk 5 has the original metal yoke knob used on both the Mk 5 and Mk 10. The Mk 5 is larger in diameter as it used a larger diameter piston and is slightly longer as well.
The SPEC booted Mk 10 also has a non-original Mk 20 trim piece under the yoke, the Mk 10 trim piece was solid black plastic like the one on the Mk 9.
The late Mk 5 had small ambient pressure holes for use with silicone (shown). The pre-SPEC, Mk 5 had 4 large holes in the cap about 1/4" in diameter. In between SP used a different SPEC cap with a large bulge all the way around the cap that accommodated two ambient pressure holes protected by sintered iron filters.
The Mk 10 had deeper large holes that terminated in a small 1/16" hole in the bottom that is evident in the picture.
The Mk 5 has the piston head o-ring bearing surface in the cap, while on the Mk 10 it is in the regulator body. So on the Mk 10, the dividing line between body and cap is in front of the yoke trim piece, while on the Mk 5 it is under the front edge of the yoke trim piece.
The Mk 9 is very compact as there is no top to the compression chamber - the ports start right above the piston and the same is true on the non swivel cap equipped Mk 5.
