It would have been more productive to ask for more specific information on what he was wanting rather than assuming (read ASS-U-ME).

Help me out with this...I don't understand why it would be incumbent upon the readers of a thread to discern the intent of a post. It seems to me that the OP should be specific in his/her post in the first place...at least clear enough to explain exactly what s/he is seeking out.

What it basically boils down to is on higher risk dives, do you want to be in the water with people who don't know how you're going to react when the poo hits the fan and vise versa?

I dive with people all the time who aren't trained by GUE or the DIR philosophy as a DM and just fun dives. When it comes to dives that are more serious in nature then the buddy pool narrows to the people I know and trust (DIR trained or not).

Don't take this the wrong way, but what, specifically, would you consider a dive that would be "more serious in nature?" I'm just curious...not trying to stir thing up...at least not this time.

That’s the one DIR myth that seems so prevalent around on the internet. I have never met a DIR diver that has ever said anything hugely disparaging to other divers. The worst I have done is made fun of a dive buddy that tried to do back kicks in split fins. It looks like pushing a string. It's quite funny. Then again this is a dive buddy, someone that I’ve done deco dives with. He understands where im coming from and doesn’t take it personally.

Your gripe is a two way street. Don’t go around flaming DIR trained divers simply because they are DIR trained. It’s as disingenuous and arrogant as a DIR trained diver calling someone a stroke because they choose to dive with a snorkel on a rec dive.

Most of my dives are with non-DIR trained divers but everyone is still diving as a unified team. It really is a very enjoyable way of diving and it’s worth exploring for no other reason then to see what the fuss is about.

I think you should keep your profiles as up-to-date as possible,,,very easy to do....least you do have something filled in....so many member leave theirs blank as if hiding something or they just don't know its there available.

Texas has some great trails 'I understand'...my USCF road racing cycling days are over....never saw the need to ride in the woods.

Other then the DM my dive profile is almost the same as K-Values.

I started road riding to train for cross country racing but I never could get over my fear of cars whizzing by. I did love the feel of 8 or so roadies getting a good draft going. That was really cool and so unique to road biking versus mountain biking.

On a totally unrelated note how are the mountain biking trails in Texas? Ive only been to Dallas which was flat as glass. Is there good technical single track in your neck of the woods?

We must have different definitions of flat. I grew up on the coast. That is flat. There is some good geomorph around here. Lake Ray Roberts has some great biking trails. No, it isn't the mountains of Hawaii or anything like West Texas, but it isn't glass flat either.:14:

I think I've made it clear that I have no problem with DIR trained divers. It's DIR trained divers with an attitude I have problems with. In fact, I don't care what your training is. If you have a "my way or the highway" attitude I'm going to have a problem with it. If that's not you...great.

Bottom Line: I never intended on being condescending, the cavern line was an attempt at humor (based on Paul's thread), which failed (drawback of the internet is that you don't see the non-verbals.).

Thanks Mark for chiming in, but there really is no need to continue to fuel this debate. On another note, when are we ever going diving together again ?

Hey, I've seen worse. You should have been here for the Timeliner v. DebraW throwdown about feeding Cheesewhiz to the bluegills at a local quarry. And then there was the time that a couple of our guys took off down a ravine in an Oklahoma lake, looked at their depth gauges a few minutes later and were WWWWAAAAAYYYYY deeper than they should have been on a single 80. They posted an innocent trip report and before you knew it, half of the DIR forum was over here accusing them of bounce diving, and well, pretty much everything short of patricide.

Now THOSE were ugly. Yours was just a little misunderstanding that could have been cleared up quicker than it was. But what the heck, it created a little excitement around here for a day or two.

By the way, it's the weekend. Shouldn't you be diving?

innocent trip report? I don't remember anyone accusing anyone of bounce diving, if your going to dig up old issues at least try to stick to the facts.
