Ditch and don used to be one of the events in the annual Illinois Council pool competition. The competitors started in the deep end with all their gear in place, air off, holding on to the side of the pool. At the start signal they descended and removed everything - mask, fins, snorkel, weight belt and scuba and then ascended to the surface. They would take one breath, descend, turn on their air and put everything back on. Once each diver had everything in place, he was allowed to start swimming to the shallow end of the 25 yard pool. First one to the end won. Winning time was usually around 90 seconds. Lots of fun!
