That depends entirely on your body shape. Me? I have large, sloping shoulders and straps NEVER want to stay put. The more you tighten, the more pressure there is to slide down and off. The chest strap holds them in place very well, and DO serve a useful purpose.

Try diving on a backplate and wing then , believe it or not they fit and fit well . No chest strap , i had on on my last BC and needed it but tha thing still moved around int he water on my . Then took the plunge to a hog rig and wont ever look back .

Oops I keyed on the Swap gear, Ditch and Don should not be much different than swap gear; you are doing basically same steps but without buddy.

Ditch and don used to be one of the events in the annual Illinois Council pool competition. The competitors started in the deep end with all their gear in place, air off, holding on to the side of the pool. At the start signal they descended and removed everything - mask, fins, snorkel, weight belt and scuba and then ascended to the surface. They would take one breath, descend, turn on their air and put everything back on. Once each diver had everything in place, he was allowed to start swimming to the shallow end of the 25 yard pool. First one to the end won. Winning time was usually around 90 seconds. Lots of fun!

My wing arrived in the mail today! My BP and hog strap should be here Monday (I hope) While I cant wait to start pool testing doubles, I almost hope I DONT love it AS MUCH as everyone says. I REALLY like my BCD (Sherwood AVID) for single tank dives. Seems sad to think I would soon reject it to Ebay because I never wanted to use anything else but my BP/W. Of course I didnt purchase a STA, so I CANT use it for singles right now anyway. :D

In the spirit of this thread, I would think that a BP ditch & don would take a lot more time than my jacket. The shoulder buckles and QR waist really make that drill a snap!
