I was kind of trying to get the G2 to do the same thing, I mean downgrade it so to speak, and more or less wondering what others have been doing. I like the G2 because of the display. I would just put it into gauge mode and leave it at that.
However OW student shows up on referral dives, 20 / 30 feet multiple times, PADI for example, latest IDC, they use their equipment,...we use the still recommended 60/min ascent rate,.. (or slower) .how and or what do I do about their G2 ? No more than 3 student dives per day, day 2 we do OW dive 4 and is there or is there not any N debt? Put a G2 into gauge mode for them and this clears the clock N wise so to speak,...do you get where I am going with this? Student looks at their G2 and the ascent rate is blinking red, and because we skip the mandatory G2 safety stop it goes into SOS mode. The question isn't bubble model computers are not the right tool, the question is how do we get a G2 to do the job, which road leads to Rome so to speak,...Cause the G2 is a very popular computer and I'm seeing more and more of them. What I am speaking about is that there seems to be a general lack of knowledge in order to get the G2 to display what you want, and only what you want and how to set it up to do the same.
So I've never used a G2 before, just got one handed to me. So I have never gone thru the 15 foot range and waited 3 min with a G2. But as I read the manual, and listen to other owners,...the G2 will clearly go into SOS mode.
You used this in your reply: "the safety stop is theoretically optional."
What I am not hearing is from a user of a G2, and that user clearly states that the mandatory G2 safety stop, will or will not go into SOS mode? And my reading of this safety stop is not an option that I have found in the manual yet.
This is what I am looking for. Do you follow? Not being difficult here, just trying to sort out what the manual explicitly states, Vs. if the manual is accurate or not. Because tomorrow I'm going to do a couple of fast ascents to see what actually happens with this thing.
