Although it is certainly true that the algorithms used do not perfectly align with individual physiology, to say that they therefore amount to nothing more than a roll of the dice is a gross overstatement. The incidence of DCS on dives that are done within accepted limits is extremely low.Since computers use a formula, no matter which they choose, not actual physical blood chemistry it all something of a crap shoot.
But they do happen, and it is hard to know why they do. That does not mean more than 100 years of research is useless.
