So, I got my hands on a Suunto SK-8 and then realized right away that my aging eyes didn't like the gray bezel with thin black declination indicators & numbers.

If low viz diving and/or night diving, then thicker/bolder white on black background is far easier to read IMO than the thin black on gray background which comes on the Suunto. Wish Suunto had the option to pick bezel color combo, but they don't.
 
I really like my XS Scuba Supertilt. It’s easy to read while keeping pretty compact. I run mine on a compass retractor, though- it’s a side-effect of mastering compass use while doing field mapping. My compass has to be in my left hand, palm up, outstretched in front of me. For me, it feels weird to articulate my arm and wrist to get everything aligned. Although,I do keep it clipped to my left hip D-ring along with the rest of my left hip entanglement hazards (and those compass retractors are super light-duty- between my SMB, SPG and compass, the compass is definitely going to break off, if it catches something.)
