Our Southwest flights to Cozumel for Sept 19-26 were just canceled. Anyone know if that means the island will still be closed then? Where is the best place to go for updated info please?

When I checked SW a couple days ago, they had no HOU-COZ flights listed through the end of the year. My guess is they decided to just temporarily remove that route completely.

Anyone have any experience with Salty Endeavors? Very flexible boat schedule, gear storage, and good prices.
Yep, a few trips, three I think. Outstanding Op. I've known Henry since before he went to Utila for his Instructor development training, followed him on FB when he was a DM in Fiji, and it's been a pleasure to dive with his new operation. Great communicator, great at taking care of me and my gear, and frequently going well beyond expectations. Last year he and his lovely wife came to my birthday dinner and even brought a cake. (below)

On my first trip with him, during the slower period in late August, I was often the only paying diver, but that didn't seem to bother him even tho I know he had to be losing money on those trips. I told him I hated to see him lose on my business and could go out with another Op he'd recommend, but he said it was his responsibility. Very responsible. He comes to my hotel to get my gear the night before, gets my pony filled overnight even with the late pickup (no other Op could do that in all my trips), and it's all ready for me on the boat when he picks me up. I'd just had my regs serviced before that first trip with him so that's where I had problems, but he fixed both with his onboard tool kit.

His business has grown tremendously since and he even bought another boat, but it's still a great Op. There are many others that are also very impressive, but I wouldn't change at any price.

That's awesome. Thanks for the info. I'd love to get them on the books, but I'll need to see what their cancellation policy is first in case things go south between now and then.

I'm seeing the island is open ... maybe this is just a Southwest thing ...?

Watch the Facebook groups, Cozumel my Cozumel and Cozumel 4 you - read thru some past posts about what’s going on here, the is it open question gets asked three times a day and a lot of folks are getting snippy but just ignore that - we are all frustrated here.

I’d hope by September we will be in a much better grove all around - we aren’t really open yet, they are taking it a week at a time it seems. Cozumel has a 6pm curfew while playa and Cancun have none......

As for southwest, I haven’t paid much attention other than hearing they pulled out for some amount of time - American is still flying here

Holy crap on a cracker the posts/comments are hilarious! But, when people consistently just join to post the same questions over and over again without even bothering to scroll first, I don't know what other kind of response they'd expect...lol.

And if there's still a 6pm curfew in place, I'll be aborting. That's not my idea of a vacation.

Yea, it's not really meant to offend people but that's been going on for a good six weeks, multiple times a day. From we're coming March 25th what to expect to what do you mean you're not open, we bought plane tickets...... It was old a month ago.

I'm just being straight and honest with you. They say we are back in business on the 8th but that depends on keeping our numbers low - the state of Q Roo today posted the highest number of active covid cases to date, Cozumel is actually getting better, it's the mainland. What are they going to do about the 8th? - anyone's guess, we might know over the weekend, we might know at 10pm Sunday - who knows. When will dine in restaraunts be open? - I have heard that will not be until we are "green" but how are you going to feed tourists - we, the normal folks have no idea. Bars?? - again, no one knows. I'm not sure what they'll do with the curfew, with bars not open, I think some folks would be happy to see a 10pm curfew, it's had a nice calming effect on crimes.....

If you want to come here to dive and just dive, get some take out food and drink beer on your balcony - once they open the port - it won't be a bad deal. There's times I just want to get away and do some no pressure just diving vacation - this would be the time.. If you want or expect anything more than that, I'd wait a bit and see what this new normal looks like cause we sure as heck don't know.

I'm not trying to push people off - I want you to come here and it live up to your expectations, I want you to love it so much you come three or four times a year!

I understand completely. I'll just have to play things by ear and make a final decision once more info is available. I really hope they aren't planning on letting cruise ships in any time soon, though. That would be a real problem.

@ChuckP, thanks for the honest feedback. We have reservations at Cozumel Palace and are hoping all will be well by then. If not, we'll punt - maybe try again in the spring. I'm just thrilled that after the Lake of the Ozarks photo from Memorial Day weekend went all over the freakin' world, Missouri is reporting no new cases associated with that particular ginormous party! Maybe we're truly out of the woods here - and maybe that means you guys will be soon as well. Here's to hoping your numbers begin to tumble, never to rise again. :)

Several years ago when I was diving with Scuba Tony, our DM was Raymundo. Hands down my favorite DM in my 12+ years of diving. He left the island for while, returned and now works for Salty Endeavors. I have not met Henry, or used the dive op, but hear only good things about them.
