Just wondering if anyone has purchased any computers off of ebay?? I found a good deal on a geckko that has never been dove but has no warranty. The seller dose have a 99.8% approval though. So basically is it safe to get computers off of Ebay?

I wouldn't. Sellers approval rating means nothing when it craps out. I would spend the extra bucks myself.

I bought a VYTEC of ebay, from some guy in Hong Kong -- brand new in box. Paid less than the LDS does... Everything went just fine..

Are you feeling luckly?

Are you buying it for a price that says you can just toss it if it fails?

How do you define unsafe?

Pete

Absolutely no reason to expect the computer to crap out. And isnt' the warranty only for a year or two anyway? Just weigh the very remote chance of it breaking in the first couple of years against the cost savings, then decide.

Good grief, I have bought all of my dive computers off of Ebay and other than a battery change have had absolutely no issues with any of them. This included:

3 hocky pucks which I later resold (resource genesis)
1 Mares Genius Air Integrated (which I later resold)
1 Cochran Commander which I use
1 Citizen Cyber Aqualand NX which I still use

The only issue is that if they have been dove before there is no way to erase the previous history, not an issue if it is new.

what about Leasure Pro?? Any problems with them??

I am not familiar with the geckko. Does it have user replaceable batteries? If not make sure you ask about the battery life. You do not want a nasty battery replacement charge to wipe out the savings you received by purchasing used.

I bought two Oceanic Data Plus computers from different sellers. Both work fine. I did change the batteries for about $5 each computer and as someone already said, the dives already on it can't be erased. Overall, I was/am very pleased with the deals I got.

As always on ebay, take your time to do research on a reasonable price and check on the seller as much as you can. I would never pay full price for a new one unless from an ebay store with a great rep.

Good luck!

Three second internet search shows the Gekko to have user replaceable batteries. Even if they were dead, the OP would be out $5. Not an issue.
