I am not familiar with the geckko. Does it have user replaceable batteries? If not make sure you ask about the battery life. You do not want a nasty battery replacement charge to wipe out the savings you received by purchasing used.

Gekko is a Suunto product.

Is the computer you bought in a box any more flood resistant than one from ebay. I've bought a couple computers from ebay. And I'm pretty sure that I paid a good deal less for 2 computer from ebay than you will pay for a new one - even if it is a best price deal.

My dive computer was not more flood resistant but my point is its only "slightly" used However there has been two serious malfunction with it. I might choice not to share this with you at the time of sale. Buying from an ebay store might work well for some but I'd be leery of a used computer from someone I didn't know

I've never bought a reg from ebay as quoted
've also bought 5 or 6 regulators from ebay. Some for pennies on the dollar. All work great.

Good luck

Depending on the brand and model, If the computer has an user replaceable battery and reliable records, it might be very good deal. Don't forget there are many dealers on eBay, too. Dive tank is also one of them... They are an authorized Suunto dealer..

Was tempted to buy a Scubapro Smart Com computer, but then no warranties, no battery replacement, and no support equals no buy. Might as well buy it from my LDS. Sure it is kinda pricey, but saves me in the long run :D

But, why do you have to buy only SP Smart Com? There are so many good computers to have a manufacture warranty, battery replaceable, and good support in the market, even off ebay.

I don't know I just have a strange sense of must have one brand of this and that like my entire wetsuit from head to toe is all Pinnacles and BC, computer, and regulator is all scubapro.

I've never had a problem with things purchased off eBay. I've also sold a few things (and I'm just about to list my Sherwood Wisdom dive computer). No problems yet on either end with stuff I've been involved with.

Oh~~~ I see.

Make sure of putting the SP sticker on the tank and breathe only with SP certified air. Otherwise, you won't get a full credit from SP. I know someone is actually doing in that way... :D

Sorry. I am teasing you...;)

I foolishly bought a Cochran commander off ebay. It sounded like a good deal, the seller answered my questions in a timely manner. I bought it, I dove it and it crapped out on the third dive. I tried to contact the seller, he disappeared. I called Cochran and talked to them, they were very helpfull but could not help much, the serial number had been obscured (hmmm. stolen?). I sent it to Cochran, they tried to fix it but it was a first generation commander and they had no luck. I did end up buying a brand new Cochran emc-16 and I love it. As far as buying expensive gear on ebay..... LET THE BUYER BEWARE!! Not all ebayers are scammers, I have gotten some fantastic deals there. Just be careful and be informed about what you are looking for.

Good luck

I have sold two computers on ebay and bought two computers on ebay. I would never use any electrical item without first servicing the o-rings. I find it hard to blame a seller for an item that worked but fails after 2-3 dives. Items sold in this manner are usually described in working or non working order and sold as is. Sure there are scams but use the feedback as a tool to make an educated purchase. I purchased an Oceanic Data Plus 6 years and 350 dives ago. It has been beat to shreads and is still working.
