Garmin most definitely does specify what algorithm they use!
That's a change from a couple of years ago when I was looking at a new computer. Their algorithm was no where to be found in their website.

Garmin has clearly listed Buhlmann in blogs, product pages, specs and manuals, going all the way back to 2017 when the Mk1 was first released...

The dive computer utilizes the Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm with configurable conservatism settings. Choose from three pre-set conservatism settings, or enter custom Gradient Factors.

Once underwater, the proven Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm makes sure you’re staying within your dive limits. Selectable tone and vibration alerts help keep you informed while you’re submerged.

There are very real practical differences between computer algorithms.

Read up, intelligently chose an algorithm, and that will narrow your choices of computers.

I would avoid the RGBM algorithm used by Mares, Cressi, and Suunto. You'll run out of NDL and be heading towards the surface long before everyone else. I consider that bad, especially on liveaboard trips.

Garmin doesn't specify what algorithm they use, so I'd avoid Garmin as well.
Suunto Ocean uses Bühlmann 16 GF algorithm.

Either SW, or Deep6 if cost cutting (no AI option at all)...

I own a Petrel 1, Perdix AI (x2) and a Peregrine (x2), absolutely appreciate them (wish I had the Peregrine AI (TX) for the wife and daughter - they didn't make them then when I go them for them, screen for the Tern TX isn't good for the wife, maybe the daughter). I also have a Deep6 Excursion I use for "simple splashes" or a back-up, and really like it for the "bang for the buck".
