For digital compasses, of the ones I have used, they are okay for knowing which direction is north, or which direction to go back to shore, assuming you remember to calibrate it every day/dive. Anything more complicated than that and I have found them almost useless. If someone put a rotating bezel on a dive computer, I might feel differently, but there is more to a compass than a north seeking needle.
my beef is that a digital compass on a dive computer needs constant calibration and there’s no legend to indicate a lubber line to align with the body centerline. Of course, an analog compass is also affected by magnetic fields as well. When calibrated, the digital compass on my Peregrine TX is a few degrees off from my analog compass pointing towards true north.

I am considering the Shearwater Peregrine TX with Swift Transmitter.

Are there any other transmitters compatible with the Peregrine TX?

I am wondering, should I spend the money on it or just buy the Shearwater without the transmitter option.

I am used to the regular pressure gage (SPG) and multiple other older dive computers (which are aging and need replacing).

Presently, mostly diving in Ontario right now but considering Scapaflow in the next couple of years.

I am wondering, if I should just buy the Shearwater and use it eventually as a backup once I upgrade to Tec Diving in a year or so.

I dove with the Shearwater on the Arabia/Forest City last year and like the computer and its interface.

The Pelagic Pressure Systems MH8A transmitters are all compatible with Shearwater computers.

Thanks

I bought the Geo Air a few years ago, basically bc it was the cheapest wireless air integrated wrist computer available. I also like that Oceanics are fairly liberal - and I am comfortable with that.

I have no huge complaints, but it is pretty bare bones. The display is not great. But it tells me my (liberal) NDL, and my gas.

I will say, now that I have more funds available, I'd prefer a better display. And Id prefer rechargeable.

Compass is a non issue for me, as I carry my own "analog" compass.
