I can find it for sale but I can’t find any details on how it works or how to mount it. Also it seems like it may require the handset to work, do you know if it is independent?
I never asked them explicitly that question, would be terrifically evil of them to have it set up like that

But it did have its own buttons that responded independently so I’d say with like 90% confidence it’s standalone (no Handset needed)

I checked the Halcyon website and seems that it’s not out through them; but local shops here in EU (like linked above) have it in stock, I aslo saw people buy it already at Boot

Probably best to reach out to them and confirm the independent thing beforehand

Edit: re attachment to mask, IIRC it was using a „clamp“ that hold on to the edge of the mask lens (right at the silicone to glass boundary); there was also a joint to move it around (I think more range of motion than the SP, kinda like the Nerd)

If you’re serious about a HUD computer, consider the SW NERD. I had a SP HUD and had nothing but issues with it. The NERD is mask-agnostic and a much better display.

What issues? Multiple lost connections to the transmitter, had to change masks several times - the SP masks never fitted me properly. I’d consider this one really carefully. I only realised how bad it was when I got the NERD.

I have had one since last summer, and it works great. There are no issues for me, and no disconnects are a problem. I have two masks that work with it, and they fit great, no problem. My feedback to SP to improve it was to have a setting to make it stay on while on the surface without turning itself off after 5 minutes of not going underwater. I use it to swim on the surface to the drop-down point and use the compass and GPS feature, but it turns itself off if I don't go UW within 5 minutes. I found a workaround to momentarily turn the dial to a different screen to keep it on. The other issue was that it did not have a sidemount mode. There is a workaround for that, but you won't see the pressure in the two SM tanks simultaneously.

SP is reviewing my suggestions and may update the firmware to address all or some of them.

I have used it on every dive since I got it and love it. It has the most accurate compass I have ever used, and the GPS feature is simply fantastic.

I looked at the NERD way back and decided against it.

Even though the HUD is fairly small I would like to see it fit to the inside of a mask, or something like the data mask modernized.

Unfortunately it looks like it won’t fit on my current mask so I will need a new prescription mask. It will still be less expensive than the Nerd or Halcyon and I don’t like how either one of those work as far as mounting options.

I am using the SP D-mask with the HUD, and I can fit prescription lenses in it. You may want to consider this option.

No matter what, avoid the frameless HUD special mask, it’s not comfortable and the HUD isn’t properly aligned in it

The Symbios HUD is a standalone computer. Same functions as the handset, but in a different form.

I find all sizes of the D-mask uncomfortable, the Zoom Evo mask fits decently and I can get my custom prescription lenses from Seavision for it. I am just used to a certain style of mask as I have been using it on and off for close to 40 years and will just have to get used to the new one.

From what I can see it mounts on the side of the mask blocking your vision on that side. Also the cost is almost double that of the Scubapro.

If you already have a mask you are happy with, and it works with the HUD, go for it.
