I bought a mosquito brand new in the box for less than the LDS can get it for. 68 dives on it and still going strong.

I bought almost all of my gear brand-new at my LDS, but I bought my computer used on ebay: Aeris Atmos AI. I have zero regrets -- the computer was slightly used, exactly as advertised, and from a seller with good scuba feedback. I've used it on a dozen dives so far without a problem other than changing the battery (which is a snap on the Aeris computers). For half the price of a new Atmos AI, this was a no-brainer. I'm fully aware it is out of warranty, and it was an acceptable risk for me. One tip: be careful about which brands you will buy used on ebay -- a user-changeable battery seems to be a must-have feature on a used computer.
I have an old Aeris I, I can't imagine it being slightly used if you had to replace the batteries. I have never replaced the batteries in mine and it has over 150 dives on it.

Got a smartcom on ebay, it was a great deal, and though it is mostly in gauge mode these days, still serves me well.

Buy of ebay if it does not work out, sell on ebay

LOL.....

I have bought plenty of stuff from ebay with no problems yet (knock on wood) I say go for it!

I bought my Suunto Vyper on ebay. It only had 3 dives on it and the cost was unbeatable. I love the thing. Regrets? NONE.

I've bought three computers off Ebay with no problems. Two I still have and dive, the third was working fine when I sold it.

Ebay is not a single entity. You can get a great deal or a lousy deal. Do your homework on the product and seller. I prefer to buy from divers rather than pawn shops.

I can't believe no one has mentioned it, but a better source would be here on Scubaboard or over on Deco Stop, from another diver who has been around awhile and is active. There aren't too many avid divers who would knowingly sell crap to another diver.

As you are asking for opinions, I'll second LEAH and recommend Scubatoys.com for the Atmos 2 wrist or the if you want a console - the 2 guage Atmos Nitrox ($299-10% scubaboard discount).

Personally, I've had good success buying fins (Tusa Xpert), booties (Scubapro), and other small accessories on Ebay.

Computer, regulators & BCD = Scubatoys.com for all of the aforementiond reasons from Leah. These things just seem too important to get from some unknown person in cyberspace on Ebay. I like the peace of mind of the warranty from an authorized dealer.

I would only consider buying used or "new, unused" from a local diver or friend.

My 2 cents.

If you buy off ebay, make sure the auction says its in working condition. If it doesn't say it, email the seller and tell him to add it and it's sold. Pay with paypal, have it shipped with UPS and a tracking #. Also, ask if he'll give a 48 hour warranty or something. If he sells something thats broken and he said it works, he lied, paypal may give your $$ back. Insurance is a must!

I flooded my dive computer 2x changing a user replacable battery

Are you really sure you want my "slightly" used dive computer? Only 56 dives on it ! :eyebrow:

Do your self a favor and check out scubatoys- buy a new computer in a box from a reputable dealer who has been around here. You won't have to worry about finding that fantastic deal and then worrying if it new, abused or what ever.

Just my 2 cents

Ebay for me is for stuff I can replace. Having to look for another computer on a holiday is not fun. Been there done that.

Just my 2 cents

Cheers

I've also bought 5 or 6 regulators from ebay. Some for pennies on the dollar. All work great.

Just my 2 cents

Cheers

Is the computer you bought in a box any more flood resistant than one from ebay. I've bought a couple computers from ebay. And I'm pretty sure that I paid a good deal less for 2 computer from ebay than you will pay for a new one - even if it is a best price deal.
