Safer than most US cities I think. Some of the sidewalks are marginal, and you might need a flashlight on a few.

Yes it is safe, however in fairness, this is low season so a lot of people are out of work. There have been a few purse snatchings, so don't carry an easy to grab purse or such. Most of these were guys on mopeds grabbing and riding. Don't leave valuable alone or in an unlocked car or such. It is a city of like 80,000, so there are a few knuckle heads. I think tourists have less problems because those cases will draw the ire of those in charge. Still I wouldn't worry about my wife walking alone in El Centro. Just use common precautions.

Second to vote : Yes , it is safe to walk at night. Also check out the many discussions already posted on this topic.

see post # 348. I don't have a camera, so I couldn't take a pic..sorry..and I realize because there is no pic I will probably never find out what is was. Didn't hurt to ask..after all I did find out what the pile of acorn worm poop was all about. BTW I'm seeing more and more poop piles now that I'm aware they exist.

cool, i see better at night that during the day. i been doing lots of reading and had come to the conclusion that it probably is safer than walking around in a us city but figured i would ask.
