    Mask- Purge or No Purge?

It's very important to master the mask clearing and removal skills so you can dive safely and comfortably. That being said, it's not uncommon at all to feel uncomfortable at first breathing through a regulator with a mask off. I've known students that have gone as far as sticking their head in a...

Too much weight on first dive

Matt, I agree with Arizona. Switching up your gear for your first open water dive adds anxiety. I'd ask the instructor if you can get in the pool with the open water gear so you can get comfortable with it. It's common to be in the pool with just a bathing suit and then do an open water dive...

    Aussie diving - April week 5 (26th - 1st May)

The equipment exchange is a required exercise if you're going through PADI. It's designed to help candidates work on problem solving in a stressful situation, but it IS a lot of fun. :)

    Roatan Island of Geniuses

I don't blame the government for evacuating us and imposing a stiff fine for staying. It was the safe thing to do. A category 5 is nothing to mess around with. It just turned out the storm turned in and Roatan was spared. We didn't want to evacuate and had a bunker lined up with a local and...

    Bay Islands unaffected by Felix

Our group drank the hotel in San Pedro Sula out of Salva Vida, but I think Roatan still has some after evacuating the tourists. :rofl3: Richard

    Roatan Island of Geniuses

I just got back yesterday, and no, we had no choice. Some of us refused to leave and were told that wasn't an option. So it turns out they flew us into the hurricane instead of away from it. We flew to San Pedo Sula and took a bus to La Ceiba the next day and then a plane back to Roatan the...

    Dive conditions in Utila, Honduras

I flew back from Roatan yesterday. The island was basically untouched, and visibility was not degraded at all. Richard

    Bonaire 7/13

I noticed a trip planned to Bonaire for July 13 on PADI Travel Network. Is anyone that posts here going? PADI's site shows it's through Sea-U-Divin, Inc (which I've never heard of). I'm interested in the trip, but I'd like to talk to a few people first who are more familiar with it.

    Travelling with gear

I flew from Los Angeles to Jamaica with a bag that was locked, and they never asked me to unlock it. I carried my regulator, dive computer, camera, and camera housing in a carry-on. They did search that. My guess is the machine showed the carry-on had a whole bunch of things with metal parts...

    Travelling with gear

The only time I heard of someone taking their own tanks was when the guy was a private pilot that flew his own aircraft and was a certified tank inspector. He'd just slap a new vis inspection sticker on once he landed the plane, and then have it filled. Otherwise it's just so much easier to rent.

    I did it!

Been there, done that many times before I got a drysuit. It works, but brrrrrrrr! I guess some just don't get as cold as others. There was an article/interview written not long ago where the founder of Body Glove (who went on to found a company producing commercial diving helmets) mentioned...

    Oceanic

I dive with an Oceanic Pro Plus 2 computer, TDX 5 reg, and Chute 3 BC. Oceanic is a quality company with quality products. That's not to say they're better than others (or worse). There are several companies that make great equipment. It's best to compare equipment and buy what you're most...

    two divers, one computer?

I think that's a really good point. I blindly trusted my computer when I first got one, but eventually started checking it against the tables to get practice with the tables/wheel before going on to Divemaster. The computer hadn't let me get into dangerous situations, but electronics aren't...

    two divers, one computer?

I also don't see sharing a computer as such a horribly dangerous sin. I just see it as being less safe. And I do understand why someone may do it. Again, I compare it to diving without an octopus (which I did for my first several years of diving but wouldn't do now). It can also be compared...

    two divers, one computer?

*Since I was writing a response while you were finding the answers, I'll go ahead and leave it. lol I'm sure others have various responses that provide varying reasons to share or not share. It's a good thread since it will benefit others as well to read the various opinions.* It sounds...

    Web Site Design

At this point, my knowledge is strong in design/layout and in ecommerce and business as a whole, but my programming abilities are lacking. The site is a work in progress. I appreciate your feedback and positive thoughts. Since the site is, or should be, an example of what I can do for...

    Web Site Design

All good advice and taken in the light it's mentioned. The site was put up as part of an assignment for my doctoral program. My knowledge of ecommerce is stronger than that of programming for sites, and I'm working on the latter. As a result, opinions are welcome. I put the low-res pics to...

    will dolphins kick *&%?

Funny stuff. :) I didn't realize there were stories of dolphins biting people, though I suppose it makes sense if they're mating or feel their pod is invaded. I won't avoid dolphins in the future, but it's all good info to know.
