    Just a little fun

Sounds like tons of fun. Enjoy your R & R and thanks for serving! (Navy Veteran)

    Brief Survey for Divers

I've taken it as a certified diver, and I'm going to have my wife do the non-diver survey. Great questions!

    DIY canister light kit

I've ordered the canister portion from you (looks great BTW), and have been trying to get the rest of the stuff together from multiple sources. Call me lazy, but how much for just the light head part of the kit?

Just saw this on ABC news

Hi there, I remember seeing some banner ads a short time back. There's another thread regarding the same ABC piece here, which includes contact information: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/sdi-tdi-erdi/277156-suds-getting-national-tv-coverage.html As a Navy veteran I can certainly...

How long is it since you dived?

Last OW dive was October 18, 2008, Kending, Taiwan. Done a couple of pool sessions since.

    Bitten the bullet

You won't regret it! I was the same way during my waiting time to get certified. A great resource I've been reading through is the PADI Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving. Not really applicable for study questions, but quite informative none the less, and a great page-turner, is Shadow...

Discussion topic - buddy separation protocol

Interesting points of discussion ... As a newer diver, I know the "by the book" answer, but fortunately I haven't had experience in this type of scenario. I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread. Relted questions: How much personal risk should be taken to try to find the "missing" diver...

    Boat entries with a drysuit

Yup, just did my DS pool session last night, and it did feel a bit ... awkward ... to feel the air shift without an undergarment. Good to know that it's not as noticeable with one.

My first set of gear scuba pro Yeh or Neh LOOK

FWIW, I got almost the same SP package (it has Air2) for $1250 new. My understanding, not that I've been diving long, is although dive gear is expensive initially, if you take care of it, it'll have a very long lifetime.

To Rescue, or not to Rescue - that is the question.

It's California, what did you expect?

    Aquarium Diving

The New England Aquarium in Boston has a similar program. You have to spend at least 200 hours volunteering as an Assistant Dive Volunteer (non-diving) before being considered for a Dive Volunteer Team member.

    I want your honest opinion....

Bear in mind I'm a new diver as well, so for the more experienced divers out there, feel free to blast me for this post... One thing that has not come up, and it's probably going to be covered in your OW class, is that with water that cold your reg is more likely to free-flow. You probably...

How do you afford this sport?

I happen to have a job which I do some periodic travel. Some of the places I go have some decent to excellent diving, so I bring my gear with me if I get a chance. Also, I plan on using my frequent flyer miles for a future dive trip. And, as a number of people have stated earlier, I'm...

Is it Common to have Jaw Trouble After Two Dives?

Or perhaps it might be related to jaw fatigue. Some newer divers (myself included) tend to bite down hard on the reg mouthpiece. This would be exacerbated with multiple dives and multiple diving days.

How often are you asked for C-card and/or dive log?

A (somewhat) related question: How many of you carry a second c-card of the same level, just in case?

    Equalizing

Sounds to me that positioning the eustatian (sp?) tubes to open up a bit more, which equalizes the pressure across the eardrum.

How did Santa treat you for Christmas?

I'm kinda in the same boat as trucker girl, my wife and I are expecting our second daughter any day now. I did, however, get a nice PT backup light and a gift certificate to my LDS.

    American Sign Language

ASL seems like a good way to communicate underwater. My only concern would be that I'll be doing a bit of cold water diving. How feasible is it to use ASL with thick gloves/mitts?
