Diver_Jan:
Hi Christian,

I just checked my schedule and I am tenatively free that weekend. I am suppose to DM a boat on the 9th, but so far, that has not been scheduled yet. I would either come down Friday afternoon, or very early on Saturday morning and stay through Sunday. I will check with John and the kids to see if they want to come as well. I have four tanks of my own I can bring, and possibly have access to more if needed. I will keep you posted.
Thats cool, right on.

I actualy am a member of seaventures, but I didnt know they were going diving there. This looks like it will be a fun trip.

I could bring the hotdogs and buns for Sunday if that works?

Thomas

Well I have changed my guest count from 4 to 0, since I couldn't book the camping spot. So I still plan on coming down on Sunday for the BBQ. I just won't be there Saturday, and Saturday night.

I've been trying to contact the ranger station that covers Leo Carrillo today and have not been able to get through. I'm trying to figure out if they have some sites reserved for "walk-ups". If so, I may be able to get there early enough on Friday to get a site or two at that time.

If I were to get sites at the last minute (that Friday), who would be interested in spending the night Saturday with such short notice?

I'm still trying to see what hotels/motels are available in that area as well. If anyone happens to drive past that area and finds any info or already has info about that please post it.

According to the reservations website kindly supplied to me by Jim McCabe, there are 100 standard campsites available at Leo Carrillo for the night of 9th April. There are no more group sites available, which is what may have caused some confusion.

Panic over (I hope). Someone tell me if I have anything confused.

Me, for two people...I'd drive up Friday night if space became available...or Saturday...
I called yesterday and was told the campsite was booked solid. What magical website shows 100 open sites??
Thanks,
Claudette

It's this one:

www.reserveamerica.com

It is aways possible the website is screwed, but it certainly told me there were 100 of 128 sites still available. Maybe someone else can try a reservation to see if I have it wrong. I did not go through to the end of the process on the reservation form.

It's even possible I have the wrong campground, since I am not familiar with the area.

OK, I just went through the entire laborious process of trying to actually reserve a campsite.
It still shows 100 sites available, but it will not allow me to reserve one - no reason given. Ah, the wonders of online registration!

I will try calling them tomorrow.

Peter

Looks like I will come down on Sunday. Maybe Saturday.

After 3 months of busiest time in my life now I am finally back. And what a big surprise that you guys are doing wrinkles dive in Leo Carillo again?! How nice. I am in, if it is not too late.

As a matter of fact, I just went camping at Leo last weekend. And here is the As to some of the Qs been raised:
1) according to the ranger, all "family" sites are booked for the next few weeks (I guess spring break getaway has moved from Cancun to california this year);
2) according to the gov site, "group" sites are not available till 3/31 due to flooding; never been to that area and don't know the situration; saw the sign at the ranger station, "group site gate only open to handicap vehicles"; guess we will have to walk if we get one??
3) "family" site can hold up to 3 cars, first car is covered with the camping fee, each additional cost $10 per night;
4) campsite 14 and 15 are huge; to those who went last time, we had 13 and 15; you cannot reserve for specific sites; but when you are at the gate, the ranger will let you choose based on availabilities;
5) the camp site is not too far away from the cities: about 18 miles to sport chalet (airfill) in Oxnard and 20 miles to thousand oaks via Kanan road, might be able to find some h/motels in Camarillo or Oxnard;
6) a few other camp sites down the road on PCH, one is in sycamore canyon, don't have too much info myself;
7) HeadHunter, it is highly unlikely that we can get a "walk-up" site, but if you get one (still remember the gal ranger's name? :eyebrow: ), I am up for it; short notice is np to me.
